Purple/Lavender Pharaonics of Egypt full costume $199--SOLD

    Specific Measurements (Optional): 34
    Seller's Country: USA

You know you'd love to be pretty in purple in this lovely Pharaonics of Egypt two-piece costume! The color is a lovely deep lavender. (Definitely not a "baby" lavender or "powder" lavender...it's a rich light purple.) This is the old-school kind of Pharaonics, with the nice flattering cup shape that they used to have. The bra top has an attached choli. I adore this costume, but as you can see from the wrinkled skirt, it's been languishing in its costume box for way too long because I just am not going to find the time to make it work for me.

The Pharaonics is in fair used condition. There is an overall slightly worn look to the costume. There is definitely a lot of life left in this for someone who is looking for a great deal on a beautiful designer costume. It is covered in large (1 and 1.5 cm) round AB stones. A few stones are missing from the prongs. There is some extra AB bead fringe pinned in between the bra cups for extra bling; this is easily removed.

Price is $199 + $15 US shipping, or $35 international shipping. First Bhuzzer to express firm intent gets it. Paypal only, please. Final sale and sold as-is; please ask all questions before committing to buy.

BRA - Currently has bust enhancers safety pinned in. I took the cup measurements by putting the measuring tape underneath the pads and pressing it down into the cups.
--Underbust: 34" end to end (currently set at about 31 or 32")
    --Cup top to bottom: 6"
--Cup side to side across the middle: 7.5"
--Cup diagonally from outside top to inside bottom: 7.5"
--Choli part is 11" tall measuring on the back part, from the bottom of the bra band up to the shoulder seam
--Underarm seam is 4" from center armpit seam

    SKIRT
    --Length: Approx. 38" to 39"
    --Waist unstretched: 32"
    --Waist stretches to 34"-35"
    --Booty unstretched: 32"
    --Booty stretches to 40"

    ACESSORIES
--Wristlet currently velcroes to about 7-8" circumfrence (hard to tell exactly because of the "V" shape)
--Headband is currently about 16" around. It's tied closed, so if you were to untie it and add hooks, you could probably get another 1 or 2 inches of length.
    --There is NO veil.

The skirt has a short zipped front closure. There is a decoration that velcroes closed over the zipper to conceal it. (You could easily change this to a snap closure if you like.) The skirt has a ruffle along the front slit, and there is a chiffon modesty panel sewn into the slit. It looks like the costume originally had an over-the-hip strap, but that part is now tacked down to the top of the waistband. The dancer from whom I bought it said that this strap could be detached pretty easily. It has been my plan to detach the choli part and use this waist strap to make halter straps for the bra--that is definitely an option for you if you are handy with a needle and thread!

Are there any snags or stains on the lycra...or odors?

The costume does have a perfume odor. Thanks for asking. My home is smoke-free and pet-free.

There are three little "picks" on the top of the skirt, where it looks like maybe a rhinestone grabbed on to the knit and pulled on it a little bit. But no "snags," per se. I don't see any stains on the lycra. On the chiffon modesty panel, there are two blue pen marks toward the bottom, about 1 cm in length. There are also 3 stains on the chiffon that looks like grease stains, also about 1 cm in diameter. There is one snag on the chiffon, where it looks like one of the woven threads got pulled out of place, so the one thread is out of place. It looks like the chiffon is an addition made by the previous owner, so thiis could easily be taken out, and replaced if you want to. (It is tacked on to the back side of the skirt slit with a simple whipstitch.) There is an area about 2 inches long near the top of the chiffon where it has started to pull from the skirt and fray a little bit. This could be tacked back down behind the skirt to hide it if necessary.

There is a little bit of dirt darkening the bottom hem of the skirt. This is really only visible on the underside. The outside looks OK IMO because the sequins along the hem protected the hem.

There is a tiny little pick in the lycra on the bottom of the left cup. The underside of the left choli top arm is a bit distressed, like maybe it rubbed on the rhinestones a bit. The underarms themselves actually look rather good. The lycra looks a little stretched and worn, but it's not discolored or stinky at all. Again, it just has that general perfume smell.

The costume is covered in shiny plastic pearls. They're that typical Pharaonics bead that gets its color chipped off over time. So if you look closely, you can see that some of the pearl finish is coming off on some of the beads. But since they're white, it's really not that noticeable unless you're looking for it up close.

Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thank you for your interest!

Okay, I'm definetely interested but I would like to ask a couple more questions and I have a class coming soon, then another class right after so I might not get a chance to reply to your answers until later...after 8 PM my time...I'm on the west coast.
I could deal with the perfume odor if it's not too heavy? I bought a costume that reeked of perfume and 2 years later I can still smell it (not a perfume I like-yuck) so I'm just wondering how strong the smell is...
In your opinion, if I remove the added waistband would the top of the skirt be more adjustable? I'm 35" upper hip and would prefer not to have a muffin top so I'm wondering if more elastic could be added to get more stretch or if there are any tucks in the existing elastic...and how full is the bottom of the skirt? It looks to be an a-line but I'm wondering if it's almost straight with just a little flair or if its fuller than it looks in the pictures?
    Thanks!

I guess whether the perfume odor is "heavy" is subjective. I am pretty picky about scents, and I find this one to be tolerable. But I will say that when I tried the skirt on just now, I could smell the perfume. There are various ways to reduce odors--airing it out in the sun, spraying the wrong side with a vodka/water mix, or swishing it around in a tub full of water--but I make no guarantees. I'd feel really bad if you got the costume and found the scent to be intolerable, so if you think it may irk you, you might wish to pass. :(

My booty measures 36". I put the skirt on and wore it with the top elastic over that biggest part, and it actually stretched over my booty just fine. I guess it's harder than I thought to tell how far something will stretch when it's just laid out in front of you.

The skirt isn't quite straight, but it isn't quite a trumpet. I think it's in the middle of the two. It flares out just a little bit. I took a quick cell phone picture (sorry it's so poor) to try to show the shape better:

While I was trying the skirt on, I noticed that about an inch of the zipper peeks out from underneath the applique that velcroes over it. If one finds that bothersome, I think that could be fixed by taking a small section off the waist strap and attaching it to the front applique.

I'm feeling kind of wishy-washy about this because of the odor...just not sure. Have you tried pressing this at all to see how well the wrinkles come out? I've never had any of my lycra costumes wrinkle like that during storage and so have never had to press one. Do you know if wrinkles come out of lycra if you hang it in a steamy room?

I haven't tried pressing it. For context, it has sat in a Rubbermaid box, by itself and completely untouched, for over a year. I bought it from a friend with every intention of altering it, but haven't got around to it yet, so it's really best I let it go so it can be out dancing.

I do have another Pharaonics that is very similar in style and ornamentation to this one, so I imagine they were made within a year or two of each other. It is also one that I didn't reach for for more than 6 months, so it also got a bit wrinkled. I showed it to Cassandra and asked her advice on it--she told me to hang it up in the bathroom while taking a shower, and that should take care of the wrinkles. I had another Pharaonics (also from the same era...for as seldom as I wear them, gosh I just love those older designs!) and I did press the undecorated lycra when it got wrinkly and the wrinkles came out just fine.

Okay...I have another class coming in a few minutes so I'll get back to you later this evening. If some one buys it in the meantime it'll save me a lot of thinking...or a lot of agony if I decide I really want it, lol!

I will probably regret this but I'm going to pass because of the perfume...if it sticks around I may break down and buy it later. Good luck with the sale and thanks for answering my questions so thoroughly!!!
