    Alteration help for SAHAR bra?!

Does anyone have experience with removing the band between the cups and replacing with a different material such as a clear strap? This bra is just too wide, even if I move the straps over, I know it will still be too be too big since I have a narrow ribcage. So, I wanted to take out the bar between the cups and replace it with a shorter connective piece like a strong piece of plastic...not even sure where to find it and the fabric store that I love is closed for a few more days while they're on vacation...sigh. I saw lots of posts about constructing a Sahar style bra but didn't see anything about taking it apart. The last thing I want to do is to ruin this beautiful bra!! Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Here's a pic...(the cups are already padded so if I could just bring these stinkin' cups in, I'll be able to do this bra some justice!)

Boy that will probably be pretty tricky. Those "bars" are really thick and very stiff or at least that's been my experience. I really question whether you could get a good result that doesn't look odd. If you do that, it'll probably decrease the value considerably. Personally I wouldn't do it unless you got it dirt cheap. I'd sell it and use that $ to custom order one like it. Maybe someone with a lot of costume construction experience can help so you might want to post this on the costuming forum too. I'll be curious to see what people like Thalia say. I think she's the brave girl who took apart her Sahar to see how it's constructed.

You might be able to contact the Sahar designers and ask for advice from them too.

I have done this with a mamdouh salamah costume, I just used the fabric from a plastic table cloth. You can write me an email, than I can send you more information.

    Hi Asala,

I have taken a Sehar bra apart, to figure out the magic and possibly make a costume (which I did and have since sold here on Bhuz). What I can tell you is that the "bar" in the middle is part of the entire construction of the bra that carries on from under the cups to the sides. The construction is literally 4-5 layers of buckram and hot costuming glue between each layer of buckram. If you like I can share a pic with you of how I constructed my bra, completely based on the one I took apart. I hate to say it, but I am not sure you can do it with much luck, not knowing what your seamstress skills are like of course. The foundation is soooo thick, not sure how you would even sew plastic in between and it would not be as thick as the rest of the base under the bra. I make costumes (bellydance, medieval, rennaisance) so I am used to things from beads to steel boning, and honestly.... I wouldn't do it. Looking at your picture, my suggestion would be to move the current straps closer in so not to cut under your arms, and add more padding, if you feel the space between is flattening you out.

    Sorry :(

    Thalia

you could always contact Sahar and ask her to remake the bra for you. I know that she's done so for others: https://www.facebook.com/saharokasha.fashion

Thank you all SO much for the helpful advice! I decided that it would be best to return it to Dahlal and just do a custom order so that I don't have a heart attack from cutting open this beautiful creation!
