Nice, Rosey! Bellydance has been my "gateway dance" to other styles including jazz, modern, and tap. I've also dabbled in ballet and Uzbek dance. There is no doubt about it, I simply wouldn't have had the courage to try any of these classes if I hadn't already spent many years developing self-esteem and confidence through bellydance. Taking the other styles has in turn helped me become a better bellydancer by helping me understand a wider range of my body's capabilities, and also has helped me to loosen up and take myself less seriously. Our most recent jazz routine, for example, was a raucous vaudeville number with lots of hopping, twirling of imaginary hats and canes, and don't forget the jazz hands!
