Thread: Raqia Hassan Workshop in MD postponed to May

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to let you all know that I talked with Faten Salama today, and her and Raqia Hassan are postponing the workshop in MD at the Lexington hotel to May 17-18. She said something about her recovering from a surgery???

So, anyone who is thinking about going still has plently of time. For those who already have tickets, heads up. This forum is especially for BintBeled because I know she's going.

I'm posting the link for further details. I'm not sure when Faten is going to announce it, or if those dates are set in stone. I just know for a fact it's going to be in May, not April, now.

It has been announced as I got an email sometime yesterday from Faten on a blast email she sent out, just didn't have a chance to post anything yet so thanks Bellydancefanatic!

I hope Raqia heals quickly so everyone can enjoy her workshop. Last year was wonderful! But what a busy weekend indeed on the East Coast!

That same day is the Herdeljezi (Romani) Festival in DC, Jamileh is teaching & performing in Hagerstown sponsored by Sitamun, The East Coast Classic Competition is in Virginia Beach, Va & Tribal Fest in CA! Wow so much to choose from and no way to attend them all! ..cr.:

Thanks for posting the info, bellydance fanatic. Faten emailed me about the change. I'll have to double-check my calendar when I get home from Rakkasah (I miss MD! CA has been cold...) to see if I can go. Might have to miss Sunday because of a troupe rehearsal. But this clears up my schedule conflict in April. ..g.:

So, Latifa . . . does this mean you are coming to Fifi??? LOL, BTW, I spent last week in Detroit . . . working NOT dancing . . . talk about cold!!! Leave balmy Texas at 70F and arrive Detroit at 20F!!! Thankfully, the hotel and office both were in Renaissance Center so I didn't have to venture out very far . . . even Greektown was easily accesible via the PeopleMover!! . . . OK, now I've checked another city off my list, hehe! Now I am thinking about Toronto.

I would so LOVE to be able to attend the Worship Of Fifi Weekend, because I really loved last year's event .... but my annual recital is the following weekend, so I'll be tied up with privates and rehearsals. Please be sure to post some "Fifi memories" so I can feel like I was there!!

Random question....but has anyone taken a Saidi workshop with Raqia? Or is Raqia on video teaching Saidi?

I took a class with her in New York years ago and only know her to do Oriental. I am not saying that she can't teach Saidi!!! I'm a fan of Raqia but I'm trying to decide if I should take the Sunday workshop.

Akasha, Raqia's professional performing experience was primarily in folkloric, not oriental. Afterwards she started teaching oriental. Needless to say, Saidi is part of her folkloric based repertoire.

I'm sure both days of workshops will provide lots of learning opportunities. :) ...and from what I've seen most of her promo material does not stress her background- you are in good company as many people don't differentiate between oriental and folkloric when taking from an Egyptian.
