I'm not at JOY this year, maybe next year. Say hi to Liz and Artemisia for me, Artemisia is probably too busy with JOY to be online right now.

When is Aida in Finland (sorry if you've told me already) I am suffering from post JOY stoopid.
It was such a great event. Keeps getting better. Also I like the class that all the bhuzzers were in the Arabesque class together. 1 big family. awwww.

I was only there for Sat and the show., but I loved Artemesia's dance. That costume and that veil looked so wonderful. Great veil technique. Didn't get a chance to say hello, and didn't realise who she was til after the show. Other highlights Khaled and the 400 roses.

Re: Any UK Bhuzzers at JOY This Weekend?
That was fantastic.
The Saturday show was a joy (no pun intended).
Sara was on form, no end of people were welling up ..cr.: ..g.:
It was the first time I'd taken classes with Aida Nour. Thought she was an odd one, partly because you'd get told off (mostly as a group) for not doing something she wanted you to do (but didn't tell you!) but she found it hilarious that her leggings had slipped down and her knickers were on show..l;, Loved her dancing and interpretation. I just kept wishing I could remember choreographies quicker, another skill to work on......
I can't believe how quickly the weekend seemed to go. It just flew by.
A big thanks to Mandy and Chris (and all the teachers, vendors etc) for another tiring and fun weekend.

What a weekend! I think I spoke to about half of you, I wasn't deliberately ignoring the rest, honest! Loved the show, so much talent on one stage.
I'm looking at the October timetable and trying to pick workshops already...

Re: Any UK Bhuzzers at JOY This Weekend?
I don't follow that ......do you mean she told off the entire group about something when maybe only one or two were getting it wrong...if so that's a teacher strategy for not singling out the perp. and embrassing (while reminding everyone else) an individual in front of everyone else.
I found her brilliant: beautifully planned lesson, had her beady eye on everyone in a large class, encouraged but warned in a warm way that these steps routines whatever can be a challenge.
Just a delight, a masterful teacher and funny!

Re: Any UK Bhuzzers at JOY This Weekend?
Hi lizajuk,
you know when you play follow the leader in class and snake round the room? We were doing that. She changed the move at corner A and we were meant to keep doing the original move till we reached point A. It's possible that's the way she always does it, it just would have been nice to have been told, she wasn't nasty I think it came across as stern, probably frustration
. Everyone seemed a little bemused by it.
At one point we were following her and she stopped so Khaled stopped the music, she turned and said something to him (I don't speak the lingo but he shouldn't have done it!) when she turned back to us he had a 'I've been naughty and told off' grin and he slapped his wrist...l;,
But like I say it was in total contrast to her finding it hysterically funny her big knickers were on show.
Don't get me wrong I enjoyed her immensely but I can understand how she could make you nervous .p:: (I know I was my first class, I thought omg what have I done when I saw high level students and teachers in the masterclass). I enjoyed what she did with the music, movements were both soft and strong. I'd happily take more workshops with her now I know what to expect.

You know - it's always a bit funny the first workshop you take with anyone until you get in their "way" of thinking. I am hoping to find Aida somewhere else for more ! (maybe finland).

Re: Any UK Bhuzzers at JOY This Weekend?
Ah you were in the hagallah...that polished off a few for the weekend. I was in Andalusian and yes there was a workshop teacher in there.
I think it is great to see that some think they are not so lofty they cannot attend..g.:
Ability was quite mixed in the class and the moves were quite straight forward but putting them together with the correct attitude and timing...aha
Whe I spoke to Aida on the Sat, saying I was in her Andalusian class..she said "it's very hard you know" and I told her I would hide at the back then and she grinned...there is NO hiding place as I found out.
But why we had been told to bring big skirts I don't know because of course it was nothing to do with skirt dancing or Spanish fusion but the Egyptian "andalusian " rythymn! (Not that I knew any better and only thought on and clicked in Sara's teacher workshop)..l;,

Re: Any UK Bhuzzers at JOY This Weekend?
I was in Aida's Raq Sharqi (Bring a veil), and her Andalusian (Bring a big skirt) and we used neither veil nor skirt. I enjoyed both workshops though.

Quite.... I don't think it was her idea but then I would have assumed the same...not the style

Re: Any UK Bhuzzers at JOY This Weekend?
Aida hardly ever uses any props - and she is really enough without any. I have a long experience with her and she will be back with us in September, 12-14th, if someone (...like you, dear Caroline:)...) would like to jump in. The workshops are in Tampere. She is also in Stockholm Belly Dance Festival in the beginning of May. She is always in a good mood in Stockholm, and we just hope the same for the finnish event, inshallah. I have taken both really excellent classes with her but also some where I have felt " I am no good", but there is something in her that always takes me back to her hands.
Links to our events (I am not involved this time, just to let you know,
if you want to follow aida) are at Tmi Asad ••• Etusivu - please be patient with the english there.
