It's a busy weekend at Saffron Dance in Arlington. Who's coming to the workshops and shows? I hope to be at Kostana and Souhail's drum solo workshop, which promises to be excellent. Very bummed to have to miss the show featuring Souhail with Kostana, Shems, and Saphira, which is just going to rock -- there will be open dancing, drinks and munchies, too. And a group of us are debuting short solo pieces in an eclectic, fun Sunday afternoon show -- including Bhuzzers Aisha Sakinah, Mayyadah Sabri, and Kostana. Here's the schedule. Hope to see you there!
Suzana
Saturday afternoon:
Workshop with Souhail Kaspar & Kostana
Uncover secrets of the interplay between melody, rhythm and instrumentation in Middle Eastern music. Grammy Nominated Souhail, along with Kostana, will teach you the tools for portraying these 3 elements simultaneously to give a complete visual presentation of the music. Dancers will also learn and get an opportunity to practice dancer and drummer interaction for drum solos with Souhail, who is frequently described as one of the best drum soloists in the US!

My annual recital always falls on the last weekend in April, so I can't go to this show. It sounds fabulous, though...
Why does everything happen on the same weekend??? ..c::

JAMILEH IS THAT WEEKEND, TOO??? As if it weren't been bad enough already. Would someone puhleeeeze get working on that two-places-at-once technology?
Well, at least we can't complain about a lack of great offerings around here. I'm grateful that people are working so hard to bring us these events, and I hope somehow they all get good turnouts.
Have a wonderful show, Latifa!

Being in two places at once would be great, wouldn't it? But I'm not sure my brain could absorb all the input... ..l;,
Thanks for the good wishes, Zana. Checking in on Bhuz is my little oasis of calm today. And now it's time to rush around furiously and pack all my costumes, find a substitute for the stage manager whose kid is sick, etc. But I'm excited about the show. My students have worked hard and they'll look great!
