Laura 2,
I think if you're a participant some fees are waived. I'm probably cancelling. gee what a surprise! ,r:;
Seriously, friends are going to Las Vegas in a few weeks to do a group party and stay at the Bellagio. That sounds a bit more fun to me right now.
You can still get a refund on rooms - don't know about your airfare though.
By the by, I heard a rumor that it might not really happen - Maybe Aradia can let us know if there's any rumbling going on about cancellation.

Actually, I booked the room and airfare through Travelocity, so I'm stuck with the dates I have.
If this doesn't happen, I am going to be *beyond pissed*. I can't get any of my airfare or room money back (trip insurance would only cover injury/death in the family, not an event cancellation so I didn't bother getting it), and it's twice what I paid for the workshops. I also completely worked my entire summer schedule around this, and my husband will have to take the time off either way at this point. I certainly hope that the rumors are just that- rumors.

Date Food Ticket Code Type Regular Price Discounted
1 Day 2 Day 1 Day 2 Day
Sat - Aug 4th
Egyptian treasures Including Dinner T2 A $300.00 $550.00 $270.00 $510.00
Including Dinner T2 B $250.00 $450.00 $220.00 $410.00
Concession T2 C $195.00 $350.00 $165.00 $300.00
Concession T2 D $145.00 $250.00 $120.00 $215.00
Concession T2 E $100.00 $175.00 $80.00 $140.00
i don't understand this price grid. one factor on the horizontal axis appears to be whether you buy a one-day or two day pass, but what's the other element?
i'm guessing the vertical axis is seat section? or is "concession" whether/what kind of dinner you get?
i'm just curious (b/c i'm not going) but this is really confusing.
ETA: i think i just figured it out: vertical axis is seat section, and horizontal is:
1 show full price/2 shows full price/1 show discount price/2 shows discount price.
so cheapest ticket is $70 a show if you buy both shows and get the worst seats. ouch. i'm sure that's great for a Vegas show, but that's pricey for a BD show.
$75 for a Layla & the Lotus Dancers show ?!Last edited by carolynn; 07-01-2007 at 02:52 PM.

yeah i thought paying $75 for leyla's show AND you pay the same for the huge line up on monday was ridiculous & rather insulting to some folks in the monday line up. due to personal issue this is on the bubble for me. will probably be a last minute decision. tina

Whoah... attending ONE of the grand concerts is between $100 and $300? I know it's costly to bring the stars from Egypt and Lebanon over but that seems really steep. I'll be curious to see how the attendance is at those shows. I notice it's even $25 to go in to see the open dancing... hope all of those dancers who signed up for that aren't going to be performing to an empty house. It seems to me like there's only so much money people will fork over at one time, but I'm interested to hear how it all shakes out. I'm not being critical, just sort of stunned by the costs. Life is sure getting expensive....

NO we are not canceling, that is a vicious lie, probably started by the same people that have hacked into our computer 4 times and tried to destroy files.
Apparently some events have felt threatened which is rediculous, the point of having a convention is for everyone in the industry to advertise their involvement in the dance. We are not trying to take over any festivals or camps or events, but some people just don't see the big picture.
We scheduled our event on the first weekend of the month because little egypt in the past has scheduled on the 2nd weekend in August, but they had to change it this year due to their venue. Deedee and Ahmed are fine, I've spoken with them and they are just sad that they can't come to Vegas, they love it here. So I'm not sure why people try to cause an issue between organizers when their isn't one to start with!

If you are a participating dancer, ie, performing on the open stage, competing or taking a workshop, you get free access into the open stage area, competition area during the entire convention, not just on the day you are participating.
Vending is free for everyone, dancer or not.
The $25 entance to the open stage and competition is for tourists who will be coming off the strip, not participating dancers.
Dinner shows are $63 for participating dancers, 2 tickets allowed, $75 for the average Joe off the street. They include a 3 course Egyptian dinner and show.
Tuesday is Tribal:
Jill Parker and Rose Harden of Ultra Gypsy
Daughters of Durga
Ethnophonica
She'enedra
Wed:
Layla and the Lotus Dancers
Thurs:
Ava Fleming
Black Opal Dance Company
Sadie
Amira
The Monday night launch party is a cocktail party, no dinner, and features thew workshop instructors.
$33 for participating dancers
$40 for average Joe.Last edited by Aradia; 07-06-2007 at 05:48 PM.

Sorry Tina, I'm not just addressing your question, but Dani's on if the event is canceled, dancinggrrl on why we are scheduled the same weekend as LE, I am trying to address as many before I go to work as possible. Didn't mean to make you feel like I was picking on you. These concert prices are in line with the Arabic concerts in Vegas. They are geared toward the ME people. This convention is not just about belly dancers, but the ME people, and the normal American on vacation in Vegas, and we are introducing them to what we do, by having some great dancers, teachers and shopping.

Thank you for clarifying everything, Aradia, those prices are totally in line with Egyptian events/shows I've seen around these parts.

I also thank you for clarifying, Aradia! I think part of the sticker shock was the confusing way the pricing grid was laid out - it wasn't really clear to me who was eligible for what discounts. I'll probably be able to afford one of the dinner shows, at least. And I am beyond relieved that cancellation is not in the cards.
Do you know what the least expensive gala show price is for participating dancers? I may have to decide between that and a costume.

I was wondering since I've seen some more expensive shows when singers have come through here (meaning Texas) . . . I was thinking "how they can charge that", LOL!! But I guess with a lot of big dance stars on the weekend gala shows, they can probably justify the prices if they are drawing from a pool of ppl with more money than your average bdancer.
Regardless, I'll be back in Dallas for Cairo Nights while the gala shows are going on . . . so I only have to worry about one show during the week!!

I think that the way that price grid is laid out, all the $300s and $500s stand out, and now I can see there is an option for getting an $80 dinner show ticket for one of the big concerts, which is not bad at all. Maybe in the future they can lay it out so that the one-show and two-show options are more distinct from each other. I can imagine putting an event this huge together is an enormous task with many details. I'm sure things will get smoothed out as time goes on.
Wow, free vending is a good deal too. And I imagined that the participants in the open dancing would get in free, but it's good to know that the workshop participants get in free too. With an event packed with this much going on, though, it is hard to get the whole picture from the website. I'm sure a lot of things will become much more clear as they go along. I can't even imagine what a huge undertaking this event must be.

Hey Lilla, I dont' think vending is free to vendors - just to those of us wanting to shop. I think vendors have a fairly big price to pay for the entire week - but they are vending for a week not a weekend so that, too, probably works out fairly. I'm not sure since I don't sell anything.

Yep, pretty sad that anyone would waste their energy on something so mean and negative,
we have the FBI taking care of it, it put us weeks behind the first time, by the 2nd, 3rd and 4th time we were ready for them, and expecting it. Who would have thought that the FBI would be needed.p:: , when all we want to do is hold a belly dance convention. Some perspective would be nice right about now! :)

It's crazy! But, it may have more to do with hotel than with your event. It's a new venue right? and it is Las Vegas. There are all kinds of nutty people out there who hate "Sin City" and god only knows how many people don't like whoever owns that hotel. There are lots of possibilities.
I wonder how much garbage Las Vegas hotels get email wise. Summer seems to bring out the worst in this kind of crap also.

The only person I know personally who has had their computer hacked, it seemed to be completely random. It forced them to shut down and start over with a new computer and new everything. It just boggles my mind that there are people who spend their time doing this when they could be using all of that knowledge and cleverness doing productive things. Who knew there were a bazillion criminals out there in the world (case in point... the email scammers) until the internet came along?

You wouldn't believe the crap we get.
In the last two days, I've recieved about 5 e-mails PER DAY from people I didn't know with crazy e-mail addreses, and files to download. Needless to say, I didn't download them, the last thing I need is to get a virus! (We also get our fair share of just plain crazy people! One guy actually calls from a mental hospital claiming to be a Presidential Candidate!)
IBDC is going to be a great event...we've got a great amount of space, and the South Point really is a nice facility! :) I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm just sad I can't be there more during the day, but...I have to work to make money for next year! ;)

aha
Wow. Really bizarre.
Well, I guess if the FBI is involved they might be able to figure it out. They might be even more sensitive about it since it's an M.E. themed event and well, you know the conservative, narrow-minded wackos out there.
I dunno but my guess would be it's not a B.D.industry group. Yapping about it and gossiping about it - yeah, totally :) - but criminal activity? seems doubtful to me but what do I know!
