Prudy Bulger, the benefit recipient and an Arlington resident, is facing the daunting prospect of a double lung transplant. Due to a combination of genetic and environmental factors (including being in a house fire at age 13 and saving her parents and four siblings), her lungs are severely and permanently scarred and are now operating at only 13 percent regular capacity. Her health insurance will cover the operation itself, which will have to be done at a hospital in Ohio that specializes in lung transplants. However, the insurance company will not cover much of her intensive aftercare, which will run into the tens of thousands, or her costs while staying in Ohio during the aftercare. This benefit is to help raise funds to cover that aftercare.
