Thread: Ozma to Seattle and Portland, September 2008

I'm starting to arrange my summer trip to the homeland for English speaking, Mexican food gorging, and bra buying...and for seeing friends and loved ones.

I usually hit Seattle, but this time I think I'll fly intro Seattle, rest and hang out, and then take the Amtrack to Portland for a few days.... then back to Seattle. A member of the group I dance with has recently returned to her hometown of Portland and I have a few other friends there...and there was at least one dancer (Lucinda?) who tried to drive to Seattle last year to meet up with me....with gas prices being what they are a train make more sense.

I loved meeting up with dancers in Seattle last time and would be excited to do it again and see more folks dance (my friends understand that when I come we just all need to go out and enjoy Morrocan food...night after night...)

It looks like I'll be going the first or second week of September, so I'd like to know if there are any events I should try to make sure I can fit into my trip. It'd be a bummer to get my tickets and learn that I am flying away a day before The BIGGESt event EVAH!

Hi Ozma! I live and dance frequently in Portland ... would love to show you around! No sales tax in Oregon, either! jewelsdances@aol.com is my email. No big shows that I know of, but a bellydance camp in Southern Oregon, about 4 hours drive south. But plenty of good food and great dancing. There's a live band playing every Wednesday evening, with 4 to 5 dancers each night. Maybe you could get a dance spot, I can talk to my friend who runs it, as soon as she returns from Egypt.

When I get my plans more in order I will poke you ( and my buddy Henna who should be back in the area..) and see what we can work out!

I have tickets now. I'll be flying into Seattle September 12th and out on the 22th! I will be eating your mexican food and buying your Fluvogs...and dragging my poor friends to an endless string of restaurants where ya'll are...and stalking your future swap-meet items.

She and I have done events together here in Japan over the last few years and she just returned to Portland, and is one of the reasons I am including a Portland leg of my trip.

I'll try to schedule a dance date at the Marrakesh while you are here, how about Wednesday the 17th? Then we can go watch the bellydancers with a live band at the Community show at the Beautiful Pizza!

Cassie is well aware of my movements, I post them on filtered lj posts before they are finalized.She's probably the one photographer who has read ALL I have to say about my photoshoots...and the one who has a handle on what a minefield of ex's San Fran is for me.

We should definitely hook up again, especially now that I'm recovered from having a baby. I'm dancing at the Marrakesh in Seattle on the 21st if you want to come to that show. Also, you should come over and smoke some hookah with me! We can get some girls together and play dress up in my costume closet ,r:;

I Usually save money for shoes....but this trip I am saving money because I KNOW way too many of you are near my size-range .

Ive lost a little more weight so: I've bought from Alimah, so I know that works. Mirabai outfits work if she's had to pad them...

I land In Seattle September 12, about 4 hours before I departed from Japan! Bring on the Jet Lag!

September 13th. Tito workshop in the late morning! Go-Go jet-lag and possible hangover from drinking with old friends! Perfect time for drum solos. Evening: Tito Show! all good! Sure, the workshops are expensive...but average for Japan workshop prices! Ya'll are lucky most of the time.

September 14th. More Tito until 11:45. Maaaaybe get lunch with people...maybe go collapse, depends on if insomnia has hit me.

September 17. Portland! Woooooo! Wooooo! See my homegirl Henna (japanraks), met up with Jewels, end up at Beautiful Pizza!

Schedule depends on old art school buddies and tech buddies...and homegirl Henna, who is ripe with child.

September 20...back to Seattle!

September 21, socialize! Whooooot!

I know of one other happening in Portland on the 20th, though it sounds like you may be headed back up to Seattle by then. There's a floorwork workshop with Ruby of Belligham, WA. I really would like to go, but will be outta town . But there's more info here:

I'll be in Portland later today, probably stopping in at Beautiful Pizza in the evening. I have an ex-pat from Japan, returned to America friend I need to catch up with...so we'll be there.

hey darlin - it was great to see you at the Tito show/wkshps. You get back to Seattle on the 20th, right? I'll be at Costas Greek restaurant in Fremont on the 20th & will see you for sure on the 21st!
