my bf & colleagues will be in chicago july 20-25 on business [wish i could go ..cr.: can i still post here?]

recommendations for the best m.e. restaurants?

who's dancing these dates?
i wanna send the guys to a great dinner and show.
oh, and the group is mostly shy professionals, so get em up to dance, if appropriate at the venue ..g.: [evil grin]

jillana's and alahambras. My fav is jilliana's, kindof an old school intimate nightclub which serves food. It has two belly dance shows Friday and Saturday night. The owner (a guy) and a woman sing wonderfully. Live band. Call and check on BD show times.

Alahambras is cool cause the owner spent millions of dollars making it look like a moroccan palace. Alahambras has a huge dance floor, dancer, live band, great food.

Two totally different places.

I second Juliana's! I haven't been to Alahambra yet.....but Juliana's is soo much fun, and the atmosphere alone makes you want to be the one out there doing the dancing!
But be ready to party, they dancing starts late---sometimes the first dancer doesn't come out until 10pm.

band starts at 10 p.m., first belly dance show at 10:30, second at 12:30. Drinks/beer are $8 apiece. No cover to get in. Every time I go to Chicago for business, I'm at Jillina's.

I went to Ala Turk once, 2003 though. We didn't eat, just went for the show which was fun. It was my first time seeing restaurant dancing.

I'm going to be there in mid-August and wondered if there were any less formal events going on - haflas, etc. I looked at the Chicago MED calendar etc.

A bit of a thread-jack here, but are there any particularly good places to buy fabric and trims for dance costuming?

I'm not sure who is dancing but Sunday night is Belly Dance the Night Away at Tizi Melloul--gorgeous decor, $25 for two shows (7 & 8pm, hors d'oevres and unlimited wine!) Tizi Melloul - Mediterranean Restaurant and Lounge
