San Diego/Imperial Beach Oct 25-27
So I'm going to be in the San Diego area next weekend and would like to maybe check out some local bellydancing. Is there anything going on? What about restaurants with dancers?
Thanks in advance!
Amanda

Merhaba Amanda,
I live and perform in San Diego. I will be going to Mexico to teach and perform that weekend, but my Arabina Dance Company members always perform at the famous local Greek Restaurant, Zorba's every Friday and Sat at 7:15pm, we also have 9:30pm show next Friday will be to live music (different sets of girls, only one is our Dance company member), but Saturday 9:30pm we again have choreographed show. You might enjoy the Buffet, Greek Folk Dance, Live music. Sat Vilia, the other founder and dir of the group performing, if you call her you can hang out with her Vilia - Bellydancer - San Diego
Also I am Turkish, and member of House of Turkey, which is a project to build a little House that represent Turkey in Balboa Park, famous park in SD. There are many homes there and we, as Turkish community working on fundraising. So that Sunday, Oct 26th House of Turkey will have a Lawn program with a booth with ethnic food, and Arabina Dance Company performance at 2pm, and Turkish local soprano performing after 2:25pm you might enjoy it. It is located in Balboa Park, House of Pacific Relations.
hope you enjoy your visit here.

Wow, thanks for the information! I hope to catch something while I'm there. The actual point of the trip is to take my 9 year old to the beach and Sea World, but I can't miss the opportunity to see some bellydancing if possible. The event at Balboa Park sounds great!
I wish I could fit in a drop in class or lesson while there too, but I am nursing an injured foot and I think its all I'm gonna be able to do to get through Sea World, yikes!

On Oct 25th there will also be a bellydance showcase at Troy's Greek Restaurant in the Mission Valley area of San Diego. Several dancers and lots of fun! I'd recommend reservations as last time there was a waiting list and it was packed! I'll be dancign there that night also : ) There is Zorba's as Turkish dancer mentioned ( I know some of the dancers there and they are very good!) There is also Marrakesh in La Jolla, Al Borzs in Del Mar.

Nadirah, I spent a lot of time in IB last year. I worked on John From Cincinnati and spent many a fun day filming there.

If you're bringing your nine-year old and the two of you are going to be at Balboa Park for the House of Turkey lawn program...
Make sure to visit the Model Railroad Museum in the Casa De Balboa, which is on the main east-west thoroughfare thru the park (you can ask for directions) - it's in the basement and is a site to behold - a whole floor dedicated to model trains and four (4!) operational layouts (including Lionel trains) that dwarf the largest layout you could build in your home! Museum times are 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM during the weekend.

oh yeah bunch of museums in the area awesome...great fun, Zoo right next door, too.
House of Turkey will also have booth with ethnic food, and famous local Turkish Soprano Aysegul Underhill will give quick concert at 2:30pm.
Arabina dancing at 2:10pm right after the ceremony. All the houses also in the area have cookies, yummy drinks, authentic pastries for only donation. Make visit House of China for your name writing, and House of Iran for Beautiful Omar Khayyam corner and hot tea...
Oh I wish I was there..
Also December Nights is the biggest celebration in San Diego where many vendors, performers, beer garden which has all authentic drinks, and all houses usually join to fundraise by selling their food.
first weekend in December.
