I got lucky twice at the MD Renaissance Festival! ALSO: Mediaeval Baebes here 10/20!

It was an eventful day in the Grove, and Fortune smiled. Much like this: ..g.:

    Exhibit A: Ooh, shiny!

Meet the drum of my dreams -- the Disco Doumbek. I've been putting off buying a drum for years, and now I know why: I hadn't found this one yet. It'll take me a long time for the two of us to sound good together, but at least one of us will look fabulous! You like? Can't wait to get practicing.

    Exhibit B: Even shinier!

Hanging out at the Hart, grooving to the Rogues, I spot a tall, saucy vision in olive and fuchsia. Not only can the woman dance the pants off of everybody around her, but she looks more than a little bit familiar...not from 'round these parts, though. Wait a minute...hmmm...nah, we never got around to arranging that meetup, so what are the chances? She lives 2400 miles away, and she's probably back home charming the park rangers or something. But still...could it be? Better go ask.
*squee!* *hug hug hug* *squee some more!* *hug hug hug*
Why, yes it is! I bring you: the fabulous Anala! Of Alamogordo, Bhuz, and the Mysterious East.

Talk about happy accidents. Sorry, New Mexico -- I don't think you're getting her back.

i saw her too! at first at one of the rogue's shows......THEN, at a benefit we had, i just finished my set with wolgemut, went outside to cool off, and the 'vision' in olive was talking to a friend of mine, he pointed to me, 'that's her'...... it turns out, he mentioned my name in passing and she was, 'wait, ruta?', she introduced herself and i was a deer in the headlights..... what an awesome, beautiful lady! but i missed Zana! waaaaah!

Love the title, the Anala meetup (too funny!), and the DISCO DRUM. I want to make mine all glittery, too.

    Here's to getting lucky! Twice!

Hah -- made you look, didn't I? Such naughty folk we are.

Funny you should ask, Ms. Sirius: The fair ended today, I believe, but is there any interest in a Second-Chance Sweepstakes opportunity? Alan and I and a friend are going to the Mediaeval Baebes concert at Glen Echo tomorrow night. I'm running to rehearsal now but can stop by later with the details. In the meantime -- any interest in a meet-up there? The Babes are great. Get thee to Google and check 'em out!

I'm just stopping by for a sec to say how very, very BUMMED I am to have missed Ruta. I'm sure I would have recognized you if I'd seen you dancing, unless you've completely changed your hair and makeup. What were you wearing? I so wanted to go to the fund-raiser last night, but we were at the fair with Alan's students and had middle-schoolers to shepherd home. Rats!

I cant believe I met both of you ladies in one day by sheer serendipity. I must apologize to Ruta, I was toast after a long day of mead quaffing. I hope to see all of you at the concert tonight.

one more. What a great time!!!

Ps...I call this costume my Perrrrrrsian. It is built of a 4 yard cotton brocade harem custome made by Flying Skirts, . an Indian tunic converted to a Ghawazee style (by cutting out the bodice to underbust) over a coin bra made on a magenta base decorated with antiqued brass disks on a chain mail base. Ad a turban and lots of flowers and a ton of Kuchi jewelry. We went to a Smithsonian exhibit of North African jewelry and I learned the correct pronunciation of Ouled Nail...,Will ed Ni ell. Also went to a lecture by a female photo journalist at the National Geographic about Muslim culture in the US and ME. I am pooped!
