    Hi, Bernie!

Nisaa's got a beledi mini-workshop on the 7th -- Belly Dance with Nisaa

Shopping -- well, there's always Dahlal, of course. She's open mostly 9-5 weekday hours. You might also be able to hook up with Andrea and arrange to visit her house, she has lots of affordable costumes in stock.

    Shows:
Momo's in Clayton has dancers most nights of the week. http://www.saucemagazine.com/website.php?e=2580
You can see the dancer from the bar area, so it's possible to stop at Momos for a drink or an appetizer and catch a show. I think they usually have dancers at 7:30 and 8:30, but you'd probably want to check with the restaurant to be sure.

Aya Sofia Turkish restaurant also has dancers most nights: Aya Sofia, St. Louis The food there is fabulous, but the bar is separate and dancers don't perform there, so you have to be prepared to spring for a full dinner to see a dancer.

Welcome to St. Louis Belly Dance! usually has an up-to-date list of local events and classes.

I think Lauren hit most of it. For a restaurant with a real Arab vibe, I recommend Sahara, located at 12283 Natural Bridge Road (near 270 and Natural Bridge), telephone 314.298.2795. Belly Dance Mirage performs there. The food is good and they have shisha!

Lauren, thanks for the plug! Bernie, if you need info about my mini-workshop, let me know!

Hope to see you in class!

Cabs are not common and pricey...really only useful to take you to and from the airport. We have a pretty good public transporation system, though! Info here: Metro You can use the Tripfinder feature to map out your routes.

I think you'll enjoy STL! Let us know if you need more info!!!

Nisaa's right. Cabs are uncommon and pricey -- you can't hail them, you have to call them.

The MetroLink light rail is great, especially for getting from the airport into the city. It can feel a little creepy after dark, but I haven't heard of crime being a problem. Busses are another matter. Some routes, some times of the day, are great...others are very scary.

Compared to other places I've been, St. Louis seems like a driving city. It sprawls, downtown is in rehab, there is no one center any more, there are lots of disconnected smaller centers like Clayton and St. Charles, and they're as much as an hours' drive apart.

Do you know what area of the city you'll be staying in? What else you'll be doing while you're here?
