LAS VEGAS Workshops with Astryd Farah!
Saturday & Sunday, January 10th & 11th, 2009
Saturday: 10 AM – 12 PM: Hot Off The Press! The Best from Cairo… Current movement from the stars of the Egyptian stage, as well as from the choreographers behind the scenes -- today and min zaman (from the past). Astryd presents modern and classic Egyptian Oriental dance technique in her poignant style, easily absorbed and thoroughly broken down. Notes included.
1:00 – 3:30 PM Classic Egyptian Raqs Sharqi Choreography: Abdel Halim Hafez, “Bahlam Beek” A lovely, sweet choreography incorporating feelings of Old Cairo…authentic gestures and “singing” the music and lyrics with our dance. A love song of the most beautiful kind! The workshop includes translation of the lyrics and notes for the choreography. Music available for sale.
Sunday: 10 AM – 12:30 PM Oriental Saidi (cane/assaya) Choreography. A sassy combo of Oriental and Saidi with a touch of Shaabi...fun, cute and ohhhh soooo Egyptian. Lyric translation and notes provided. Music available for sale.

Cost of entire workshop before December 31st: $90
Cost of entire workshop after December 31st: $105

Happy Winter! I am just back from an exciting teaching tour through Europe and a visit home to Cairo. It was fabulous, and it is so rewarding to continue sharing my instruction and performance around the globe! I am thrilled to be presented again in Las Vegas by Britt for 3 great workshops this January! You can expect more delicious Egyptian dance movement utilizing and refining authentic technique. I will talk about the origination of the movements in true Egyptian style, both muscularly and structurally as well as culturally and emotionally.

I hope to see you in January!

you are so funny!!! flying in Friday night and leaving Monday, going to Astryd's workshop with my teacher/friend Rita. She's been dancing for 30 years, it would be awesome to get together if you haven't left yet. Keep me in the loop!!

I LOVE to visit Vegas, but I'm a northern girl and dig the snow and cold, and the other three seasons. When I told my husband I was going to this workshop, he said "Going to Vegas twice without me?" (he's never been there). Tried to comfort him that we are going in March to celebrate our anniversary, he was okay with that. egads, our anniversary and we're hanging out at night with the bdancer crowd!! I'll have him bring his golf clubs.

hummm, investment property, huh, that's not a bad idea. I want to go to turkey and cairo first to buy some stuff. I'm so live now.

LOL...it's snowing in Vegas right now!! Seriously. It's even sticking. Does that count as a "season"? BWhahahahahaha.

of course it counts!! wind chill is -19 F here, 2-3 feet of snow everywhere. but vegas has bdance action, nothing but classes here, no restaurants with dancers, nothin. small town usa.

Astryd just came and taught some workshops at my house in January! She was fantastic! So devoted to teaching, and her choreographies are really nice. Very good architecture and balance, and a few fun tricks too. Have a great time!

good to know!! She also has the written choreographies which is helpful as I am horrible at memorizing instantly.

any bhuzzers going to LV for Astryd? Rita and I are going out to ME restaurants that have dancers fri., sat. and sun nights. I have to ask TanyLV the names of three good places!

Glad you will be coming back to Vegas, I won't be working at Marrakech this weekend, Marrakech - Marrakech I have private parties lined up, but the dancers from my Dance company will be working there, Dahab and Zhanna. Mezza will be a great show too, Estela is another one of the Ra dancers, we have some talented girls here in Vegas. I will see you at the workshops!!

I agree - I took a choreography workshop with Astryd here in Sac, and 'good architecture' is a very good way to put it. It was one of those rare workshops where I left feeling I had a grasp on the entire song, it was challenging but do-able. I really like her. If I had my wish, I'd take all of her US workshops.

Hey Joanneraks, glad you are having fun with the dvd! I'll try and be a sponge for Astryd's teaching.

Ohh hey there Ezma....since I leave on Sunday...I will take you out! Friday we can maybe go to Marrakech and then Saturday to Almaza (to see Sacha) and then to Mezza for Estela's show! If your interested ...call me when you get here..

Maybe I can get some of the Ra dancers to come out to Mezza on Saturday, my Egyptian party should wrap up by 10 PM, so that will be perfect timing!!

omg I love this town, just spent the evening with tanyalv and lots of other beautiful wonderful dancing ladies - ended the night at mezza dancing dabke. Coming back tomorrow aradia to mezza after another place first. I'm going to close it down tomorrow. how late are places open?

Lol, usually they stay open until you close them down!! I worked in A Turkish club back in the early 90's, were we saw the sun come up on many mornings!!Remember, this is Vegas, our theory is 24 hours a day!!!
