Re: Raks Congress in Belgium this weekend
That was Loes aka Sahar Jinaan. I'm taking classes with her at the moment. And yes she is very, very good! Love her style. And I think she did a real great job at the competition!
I had a lot of fun at the festival. I went on sunday and started with a Randa Kamal workshop. She's one powerfull lady! "straight legs! Stomach in! Moooore shimmy!!" :-)
It wasn't easy, but she has inspired me a lot.
After that I took the Fahtiem shimmies/layering workshop. Wich I enjoyed very much! She has a very warm and loving personality.
The last worksop I took was the one with Asi Haskal. He's like one big ball of energy. He teached a fun choreography and made us jump around a lot :)
So after that I was exhausted and glad I could sit down and watch the competition and show.

Re: Raks Congress in Belgium this weekend
does she have a website?
I didn't take any workshops that weekend cuz I was working. So I came to the show very last minute, didn't decide to go till the day itself. In general I like the competition and the show, but I was quite annoyed that it was taking so long, that it started so late, and ended so late... (mainly cuz I was very tired) I thought the room were the show was, was not a venue to perform. The seating was awfull and had backpains all night... It bothered me that I couldn't see the legwork all the time... Happy I went, though ;)

Re: Raks Congress in Belgium this weekend
yes, Asis workshop was a big fun! i love his way to dance and to teach, no count, no stress - only a big dance party!!!!!
i was also by Fathiem (very nice!)
Tito (many students!) and
Selma Yildiz (a woman with expression!)
the friday show was wunderful - perfect dancer with different styles,
on saturday i was disappointed, because Randa Kamel did not dance...
the souk was not so big, but enough to spend money,
the location was ok,
so we loof forward to next year!

Re: Raks Congress in Belgium this weekend
I liked the workshops that I took with different dancers, but there were several things that I did't like:
-seating at the show was chairs on the same level: we didn't see anything below knee level
-show started 1 hour late on saturday
-open stage was planned on timeslots when people went out to eat or after the show. The show that ended at 01.00 instead of 23.00.
-lunch and dinner on friday, saturday and sunday was almost identical and didn't provide enough nutrition for me to dance for 8 hours a day. No lunch/dinner tickets for me next year!
-Randa and Tito didn't dance in the show on saturday
I had a great time, hotel was close to the congress center and I had no trouble getting there by public transportation. If the line-up is right next year, I'll probably go.

Re: Raks Congress in Belgium this weekend
What happened at Raqs Golden Awards competion? Video vote at least felt quite bad way of selecting finalists as now it was more about how much different dancers promoted themselves to be voted... and though final decision about finalists was combination of "Publich vote" and judges it still did not feel very impartial but hopefully best dancer won

Re: Raks Congress in Belgium this weekend
No, I don't think so. It's the first time she's teaching, so maybe in the future...
And yes, the venue where the compitition/show was held wasn't good. I was lucky to sit on the third row, but even there I sometimes had trouble seeing everything.
And the waiting was terrible ..c::

Re: Raks Congress in Belgium this weekend
yea I thought the show venue was awfull. I sat in the 4th row but didn't see the legs half of the time... As far as the golden awards go, my least favorite dancer won (I hardly knew any of them, so my preference really goes to their dancing techniques!, and my favorite came in forth and second... I was also very annoyed about the waiting, it started an hour too late, the break was far too long, and it didn't end till 1 o'clock, and at that time the venue was half empty cuz everyone was annoyed that it went on so late in the night...

Has anyone positive comments about this event? I missed it since I have been having a pause in my dancing but expected so much of this event.

Hi ladies,
does anybody know when the next raqs congress and golden awards are? There is no info on their website about 2010 or the end of 2009... Maybe somebody from Belgium would know... Many thanks in advance!

To Mekyria:
Hi Mekyria! Is Salwa the organazer of the event? Do you happen to have her details?
To Soraya2:
Hi Soraya, do you happen to know who is the organazer of the event and with whom I can get in touch. Beginning of March sounds good, but I guess I need to confirm it...
