International Romani (Gypsy) Music & Dance Festival - Saturday, May 2, 2009

Featuring Drago from St. Petersburg, Russia

Join us for a full day of workshops in Romani (Gypsy) dance & music, followed by a traditional Romani Slava (PARTY) with live music, special guest performances and open dancing for all!

In cooperation with AED and CEC Artslink's Open World Program, WMFC introduces DRAGO Ensemble for the first time in the United States! DRAGO is Valentina Chakhoyan, Sergey Plazovskiy, Vitaly Studilov, and Yulia Studilova. Valentina Chakhoyan is a professional singer and a member of a Romani family well known in Russia. DRAGO has participated in many ethnic festivals, concerts and Roma-related shows. The ensemble has performed in Finland, Hungary, China, Sweden, Cyprus, Taiwan and other countries.

Balkan Romani Dances with Michael Ginsburg
Turkish Romani Dance with Kostana
Russian Romani Dance & Guitar with DRAGO
Intro to Romani percussive technique (Darabuka) with Sidqi
Advanced Romani percussive technique with Seido Salifoski
Indian Frame Drum Technique with N. Scott Robinson

Plus Vending of Romani music, instruments, clothing, Henna artists, Turkish coffee and more!

EVENING SLAVA (PARTY): 7pm - 11pm
Live Romani Music with ROMSKI BOJI & Special Guests, Open Dancing, and Special Performances by Kardelen Turkish Dance Ensemble, DRAGO and the Silk Road Dance Company! Tickets include snacks and drinks (soda, water and beer).

Evening Party Tickets: Adults: $30, Students & Seniors: $25, Kids 7-16: $15, Under 6 are FREE!

All Day Festival Pass: ONLY $50.00! For all the classes you can handle plus admission to the evening party. Limited Space. Register Early.

VOLUNTEER! We're looking for a few good volunteers to help us in the following areas: set-up, clean-up, registration, ticket sales, hospitality (reception), sound, vending.
