Khaleegy Spice! with Latifa
11:00am-1:30pm
$40.00 ($75 for the day)
Many oriental entrance pieces contain a khaleegy/Gulf/Saudi section. Learn how to shine by interpreting the music in an authentic way that is appropriate for restaurant or hafla performance. Latifa will teach the traditional steps and movements of this subtle and lovely African-nuanced folk dance, and then show students how to adapt these movements to provide variety in an oriental performance. Please bring a thobe if you have one. If you don't have one, bring a veil.
Latifa will be using the khaleegy portions of dance standards such as "Eshta Ya Amar" for this workshop. If you have a favorite piece of music with a khaleegy section, bring a copy of it on CD. Time permitting, Latifa will show you how to effectively interpret your piece of music.

Dynamic Drum Solo with Shahrzad
2:00pm-4:30pm

The drum solo is one of the most exciting and energetic parts in a belly dancer's show. It is a time for the dancer to wow the audience with her unique isolations and personality. Shahrzad will teach essential movements and exciting combinations to common beats found in drum solos. The newly learned skills will then be put into a brand new choreography to a popular drum solo piece which can be used by workshop participants for practice or performance.
