Thread: East Coast Belly Dance Project 9/24-25

Belly Dance Live from New York! Poet's Den theatre, 309 E. 108th St. NYC, featuring Layla Isis, Mariyah, Sira, Ranya renee, Shoshana, Tarik Sultan, Shems, and Yasmine. (Hannah Nour will not be able to make it as originally planned). Anybody else going Thursday night?

we enjoyed it....very Egyptian...the girls were beautiful, but Tarik has a cute sense of humor :)

Well given the band line up I'm not surprised at the Egyptian stylings.
Tarik is an excellent dancer but more importantly he is a SHOWMAN!! He has something special and I've been lucky enough to see it on several occasions.

As for the others, they are all wonderful performers, which is why I'm so excited.

Just still a little sad I won't get to see Hannah Nour (she always brings the house down!)

A nice way to spend an evening right? I have only seen Tarik perform once before but he was inspiring and I am now seeing him for 90 minutes on Monday night. I know he will work me hard and my arms are going to be killing me. I am an old lady with a shoulder injury. Have you studied with him?

I've taken a few workshops with him.
Don't expect the drilling and sweating methodology. He likes to explain things in a cultural context before having you do them.
Also he tends to break things down to the beginner level before he really kicks in. So I wouldn't be too worried. The thing about learning with Tarik is you come away with so much information that you are able to start studying on your own.
