Thread: Fez, Morocco - Jan 2010

Hi all

I'm planning a trip to Fez, Morocco, in January 2010 and would like to know if anyone here on Bhuz might be living/teaching/performing there? Or know someone who does? One month without dancing is to long for me.

I'm up for anything! Lessons, dance shows, clubs or just a coffe break with a fellow dancer.

There´s not much (quality) dancing, but let me check if I can get the latest info for you on the scene...

Im back from a fantastic month in Fes.
I didnt dance very much during my stay there, but i took one lesson with a woman called Saida and went to a berber concert which included a lot of fantastic shimmey! Wooah.

And I hope to be back in Fes again later this spring and summer.

I'm going in less than a month, any recommendations for me? My lodging is set, but restaurants, must-sees, etc? I'll only be there for three days.

Old town medina is a must! That's where i spent most of my time.

Guide is not needed, its ok to just walk around by yourself. If you get lost you just ask for direktions to Tala Kabira eller Tala Sahira and from there you walk upwards and you'll be back by the main gate.

Café clock is a nice but international hangout with concerts Wed and Sun, located at the beginning of Tala Kabira. But the guys there might start random concert whenever...

Since I lived with a family I hade most of my meals "at home". But all restaurants with some crowd are worth visiting.

If you want a laugh; go down quite far on Tala Kabira. Far in the bottom, on the right side is a "belly dance store". They sell very sad dresses, I couldn't stop giggle.

Where will you stay? Old or new town?

I'll be in a riad in the old medina. My plan, really, is just to walk around for three days and look! I've never been to Morocco before and that's my favorite way to get to know a place. Walk, wander, find retaurants and shops and neighborhoods at random. Sounds like it'll work will in Fez.
