Thread: Rakkasah East

Who else is going?? I'll be there Thursday through Saturday.
I have a room for Thursday and Friday nights, so if you need a roommate PM me.

Anther woman I take class with and I may be up Friday and Saturday. e are going to see if we can find a room for Friday night. Do I expect them to be sold out already...yes, but we have to try. I'll know for sure next week, I hope.

I'll be there Friday night through Sunday. And performing with the Shake Charmers Dance Company sometime on Sunday, I forget!

(Resullivan - I think they should have rooms next week still, I booked my room this week and the woman on the phone said that there were lots of rooms available.)

I'm planning to drive up on Wednesday morning to catch the Saqra and Leila Haddad workshops, and will be there until Monday morning. My troupe is performing Saturday night at 9:16. I hope some Bhuzzers will be there to cheer us on!

Hope to come, leaving NH so I am willing to pick up a few travelers too!

Any tips for a first-timer? Like how to balance out watching the shows with shopping?

I'm taking the Aneena veil workshop and the Jim Boz slow & sultry workshop.

Wooo! I'm counting down the days!! I'll be there most likely Saturday.
Nepenthe - I never find it particularly difficult to balance out watching the shows with shopping because the majority of the shopping is in the same room as the performances, and you'll get pretty good at shopping and watching at the same time!..g.:

I've never met any Bhuzzers at Rak East. I think I am always too distracted by shopping.

I'll be there to i'm performing friday night early 7:16PM. I'm staying thursday- sunday (got to work monday bummer) I will taking Fatima"sfunky folkloric on thursday. skipping suhaila. friday classes all day I will pace myself. Saturday Aneena and sunday Jim Boz.

As for first timers: get program so you can mark off who yo uwant to see. This is very hard. Go one time around avoid buying anything, to get an idea of what is out there. breathe of course keep tissues so no drool on sparklies. then let loose and shop. periodically go outside so you don't get sensory overload. and to make cell calls, can't hear nothin in the auditorium. If there is cheese cake and chocolate cake at the snack bar treat yourself you'll dance it off later. (oh that's how i do raks east)

Latifa - look for us! I'm with the Fredericksburg crew. Wouldn't it be great if we could get Lynne/Basima to come from CA to be with us?!?!

Yes yes yes! I was just watching a video the other day of her dancing with my troupe. We miss her! And I'm sure the Fredericksburg "pod" does too!

Oh right, the important stuff, workshops, performances ..g.: . I'm performing on Friday night 9:26pm. I'm limiting my workshops to Suhaila's, Fahtiem's and Angelika Nemeth's, so if you see at any of their six workshops say hi. I'm near-sighted so it'll take me a few seconds to focus and recognize you. Too bad I can't stay 'til Sunday, I can't afford to take too much time off.

I'll be on my honeymoon this year and won't be able to make it. I'm sad I'm missing it, but I'm not said that I'll be in AUSTRALIA!! Woohoo!!

If you have AAA you can book a room on their website for under 80 bucks including tax.

I'll be at Jim Boz's workshop Monday. Unfortunately, I will be having surgery Wednesday so I will miss the performances this year! Luckily, I live a couple of hours away so I can still squeeze in a workshop early in the week! ..g.:

Wow, this is so cool. I've never met anyone from a forum before - but I'll be at the Rakkasah all day Saturday and Sunday, so I'm bound to meet some of you! I'll print out this post, so I can match times/places/faces. How exciting!

I'm not in any workshops 'cause this is my first festival and I only just found out about it, but I reserved a room at the hotel just this past Saturday (the 15th), and was able to get the $82 rate. I'm driving down with another student from my BD class and we're sharing the room. (We've space for two more folks, if anyone's interested!)

MY SURGERY HAS BEEN POSTPONED!!!!! So I will be at Rakkasah on Monday AND then back Friday night, Saturday & Sunday. I am really quite happy to put off this procedure until the first of the year! See you there! (Note to self: Order a Bhuz pin!!!)
