Vegas sounds GREAT to me, considering the weather here sucks. But then what's a meetup if the area doesn't suck too? And this area has so many reasons to FLOUNCE OFF about something.

Hey Yasmin! Come home for the Bahaia workshop on July 24-25 in Elk Grove Village and I WILL put you in the show that evening. Seriously! You're officially invited!! We may suck geographically, but we also know how to suck up!!

Want to know what else SUCKS about Connecticut? We have these stupid Blue Laws, meaning that our liquor stores close on Sundays and by 8 p.m. on weekdays. And you can only buy beer and wine coolers at the supermarket and convenience stores.

Oh, and we don't call it a liquor store. We call it a "package store." In college, I made the mistake of asking if my roomies wanted anything from the package store, and they said "No, I don't need to mail anything!"

Chicago may have the worst haflas evar, but I bet you guys can buy booze pretty much whenever and wherever you want!

The weather sucks here, too.

Sounds pretty much like Conneticut is a long lost province! Although, we can't buy beer, wine or coolers anywhere except the bloody lcbo. Gawd!

I always knew there was something a little Un-American about my stomping grounds. CT is totally Canada Junior. I actually want to go out and buy vodka for practical purposes (to make a cleaning solution to get the cigarette smoke odor out of my new Turkish costume) and can't do so today because I live in this stupid weirdo puritan state ,m::

My eyes lit up like a pinball machine when I went to a grocery store in Florida, on a Sunday, and saw a myriad of wines available for purchase. Score!!! ..g.:

Just now finding this thread - this sounds like a lot of fun! So is anything going on this year, or waiting until next year? I would love to do something this year if possible.

This is an awesome idea! The online Green Thumb club that I'm a member of has been doing this sort of thing for many years. I was able to attend the 3rd annual reunion in 2004 which was held in Chicago. It was great fun! We visited the museums, the zoo, the botanical gardens... all that nature inspired stuff that we share an interest in. I believe the reunion last year never got off the ground due to the sucky economy at the time. But it's usually about this time of year that the idea is brought up again & dates & hotels are voted on. Unless the reunion is to be held in the deep south, they usually aim for the last weekend in July as well. Depending on their available time & budget, some would attend from Thurs till Monday, others only for the weekend itself, or whichever days they could.

How about the first annual Bhuzstock last weekend of July 2010 at Holiday Inn Elk Grove which is in the suckage zone:)?? We should be able to find some Bhuzzers who will bring the bling and cossies for our perusal. Maybe a road trip to Dahlal on Saturday would work? Is it about 3 hours?... or maybe Dahlal will come to us;)
We can plan 2011 in Connecticut for the same weekend but we will have to find some way around the sucky puritan laws;) lol maybe we can road trip on that one to New York where we can shop like there is no 2012.

That way those of us who need to plan further out can shoot for the 2011 date

If it makes you feel any better my sis lives in Nampa ID and they can't by alcohol on an election day. The bars don't open until AFTER the polls have closed!

Well, not all of Canada... In Quebec you can buy beer/wine/coolers as early as 6:30 am and as late as 11 pm, at the convenience store. Beer and some wine in grocery stores, anything at the SAQ store (Societe des Alcools du Quebec). ..l;, How do you do, mademoiselle?

Alas! There IS a way around the puritan suck!

All you have to do is make a mad dash for the New York border. Just under an hour's drive away from my residence is a lovely little land of milk and honey called Brewster, NY. Kimahri, our queen of Imported Suckage, lives about 15 minutes away from this mecca of Suck Freedom. LUCKY!!!!!!

If we do the CT Bhuz Meetup, we will have to stage a dramatic and rebellious Sunday run for the border. Maybe we'll even have a Sonic in our neck of the woods by 2011!

Yes, you are right Kemintiri. The highlight of going to Ottawa was always racing over to Hull, Quebec, to get booze. Even if you didn't want it, you went cause you could. Well, that and the abundance of strip clubs for the males in your party. ..l;,..l;,..l;,

As for Bhuzstock, well, looks like it is CT 2011 for me. We have a Fifi workshop in Toronto mid August and I don't think the wallet will stretch far enough for both. ..cr.:

Unfortunately, Dahlal is several hours away from the Elk Grove/Schaumburg area. But if it's BD shopping you want, there is a Bhuzzer who sells Dahlal. And there are a couple of vendors who sell Sharifwear. And we can't forget Nilaja with Calico Garden and Magda as well as Serena's Circle. It almost sounds like a bellydancing strip mall...you can find what you need without having to go far!

So, can the meetup be at an event like this, or is everyone wanting specifically a non-event date/place? How expensive are accommodations in Elk Grove?

I'm all for a get together either within driving distance from me (Chicagoland burbs, St. Louis) or somewhere cheap and easy to get to like Las Vegas.

Maybe someone should generate a poll now that some ideas have been generated.,r:;

People on the coasts often think of themselves as superior to those of us who live in the Midwest, and often disparagingly refer to us as flyover country. People on the coasts often can't even find us on the map.

Well, here in Iowa, in the heart of flyover country, I can buy not only beer and wine, but also hard liquor, at my grocery store, 24 hours a day, every day.

Amira, I've got the hotel booked for the Bahaia weekend workshop July 24 and 25, and I can certainly see if Andrea2 wants to come up and vend at the event. We will also have Nilaja of Calico Garden and Gypsy Magda vending their beautiful items. Other vendors, too, but not yet confirmed. The workshops will be 2 days of the Bootylicious Bahaia, a meet and greet on Friday night, a big show on Saturday evening, and anyone who wants to stick around on Sunday for an after-party, there's a great restaurant right in the hotel. Registration will be opening in the next week or so (gotta get through Bellyfest first - this Saturday!). Would love to have lots of Bhuzzers join us for the weekend!

I would love to meetup this year too!

I can arrange for a hafla/meetup on Friday night at the hotel. Was planning a meet and greet, but would be easy enough to re-arrange. If you state you are with the Bahaia workshop, the room rate is very affordable (don't have the exact price right in front of me), but that rate won't apply until I open registration. Why not combine a great meetup with one or two days of workshops with Bahaia? Good workshops, great shopping, fun hafla, gala show, and a nice hotel that we can totally fill up? Take the extra day on Friday or Monday and make it a really fantastic long weekend. I'm up for it, and I've already done the legwork.
