Re: Stockholm Belly Dance Festival 2010
The Stockholm Belly Dance Festival is the most talked about non-egyptian festival in the world... I dream of making it there one day.
I hope you guys in Europe know how lucky you are to have the access you do. *sigh*

Re: Stockholm Belly Dance Festival 2010
Yes, definitely, we
feel lucky to have another "Nile Group event" just next door! and with the best classrooms as the place is a ballet school. But also for the three shows (the list of performers just published On Stage SBDF)
which only as such would bring me there just to see the final!!
It is always so fun to see all the dancers on stage together.
I hope one day you can make it NandaCncer like I would like to some day be able to travel to the "real" Nile Group.
....and all this next week, I'am sooo excited!!!

Re: Stockholm Belly Dance Festival 2010
Tired but happy after the splendid SBDF 2010! All the evening shows were enjoyable with many famous bellydance artists and like always, all the shows were very long (...they lasted up till five hours!). The level of the performances was very high, and I especially enjoyed well-trained group performances. Virginia is one of my bellydance idols and I loved both her workshops and performances  And so many other excellent artists and performances; Khaled Mahmoud, Ozgen, Nour, Tito, Zahra Bent Ammar, Mercedes Nieto, Kazafy and many, many others...

Re: Stockholm Belly Dance Festival 2010
Short report of this festival for those who might be interested what did we enjoy there.
Khaled Mahmoud now so popular that he has no free weekends until Dec, was teaching balady and shaabi, which were both delicious. On stage, wearing a design by Aida Nour which perfectly fit him, and showed his skills especially in shimmying that I never thought to be possible. I think he is now in the top class but still a nice and warm person telling us to travel to egypt and look at the local folk dancing, to learn more.
Tito Seif in white jeans was really delicious to watch and there was also a big joke during his performance (warning, if someone is buying the DVD, stop reading now). The stage was dark but in a tabla was a man standing in Tito's white full-length cloak (or cape, I am not sure about which word to use), but when the cape was dropped and a man in Tito's clothes revealed it was not him but Yasser Al-Swery !!! We all enjoyed his joke and laughed like crazy. After, we also saw real Tito in oriental and in the last part he also jumped on a grand piano and continued his dance....for workshops we did some saidi with stick to hakim and a beautiful oriental, which I hardly can describe, just loved it, tempo and level changes and style. There is a part of this choreo danced by him in Nile Group youtubes, if interested to look, but it has evolved a lot since 2008. He has a nice teaching style because he encourages all the time to try even though his style is not at all easy to pick up - we had some difficulties with the choreo since all was first done on the right but then repeated to the left, including using the stick on your left hand :)
I should also mention a new teacher there Nasra Emam, which some of you may be familiar from Nile Group. She and Ousama together did marvellous folklore numbers and I took two courses with them, nubian and shamadan, and both were juts what I wanted. Ousama probably did not understand that we are not used to do nubian since he commented our style "he has never seen a nubian to dance with shimmy" but we all laughed to that. If you ever need a folklore workshop, just sign for these teachers and you'll get it.
I am willing to continue my report but there is so much to say that I stop for now and continue if someone asks for it. I just want to thank Mohammed and Suzanne for this great great event again, and although I agree that 5 hour show is too much after all day of workshops, I do not mind if the stage is full of other stars not yet mentioned here like Aida Nour, Lubna Emam, Camelia... but of course I am also really really tired right now and so full of new things and impressions.

Re: Stockholm Belly Dance Festival 2010
I participated in SBDF Competition in solo category Prof level and visited some workshops.
First of all I would like to thank Mohammed and Suzanne for organizing such a wonderful event. I really enjoyed performing on that stage and meeting so many nice people. And of course workshops... they were just amazing, especially Khaled Mahmoud's shaabi and Tito's oriental dance, I just loved them both and I'm looking forward to visit this event next year again.
