Thread: anyone going to Astryd's workshop August 29 in San Francisco?

I am going to this, and bringing my friend/teacher too.

12:30 - 2:30 PM: Pure Egyptian Dance – Sharki, Shaabi & Balady:: Combos & Drills
The stages and streets of Cairo, then and now …Astryd brings you some
of her favorite moves reflecting Egyptian dance both classic and
modern! Techniques, steps and combinations featuring Balady, Shaabi and
Sharki - direct from the source.

3:00 - 5:00 PM: Balady-Saidi Pop Choreography (without cane) A
fun and upbeat song, this original choreography reflects authentic
Egypt in gestures, lyrics, steps and feelings. Powerful movement and
precise technique combined with a sweet and happy style form this
engaging Egyptian dance. Full choreography notes and lyric translation
provided, music available.

Many of Astryd's gently used costumes from CAIRO’S TOP DESIGNERS will be on sale during the workshops at rock-bottom prices! Email Astryd for information if you'd like a sneak preview of some of the costumes (or "first dibbs"!)

If I'm in town and not booked I'll probably attend! Astryd is very sweet and fun - took a workshop of hers years ago and had a great time :-)

OH yeah. I almost forgot about this! Thanks for the reminder. Yes, I agree with Khalilah, Astryd is a great workshop instructor.

I took a workshop in Vegas (feb 09 I think) She's a great teacher/person and her choreographies are very fun!

hiya local ladies! I am wanting to go to a restaurant with a live band and dancer Friday and Saturday nights. I did some googling but am a little bit overwhelmed. Can you point me in any direction? I though Alima and some other bhuzzers dance at restaurants in San Fran. Do you ladies dance somewhere as well?

So long as they maintain their current Friday schedule, you MUST go to Pene Pachamama to see Georges Lammam!!! They play late, so you can either eat late or go somewhere nearby (it's in North Beach, so LOTS of restaurants to choose from!)

I dance in the East Bay on Saturday night, so you are more than welcome to pop over the bridge (I can even provide transportation if needed) and come see me at El Morocco Restaurant! Fadil Shahin's place :)

I'll attend, if not working... Took her workshop a couple years ago - enjoyed it! she's great.

I'm dancing Saturday night at el mansour (sf) and about pachamama: I would call Amina to make sure it's still on that weekend. Usually Astryd dances there when she's in town but George told me he's gone for august. :( If it's still happening then somebody will be there to take his place and the band will play! I'm not sure because Amina usually advertises the special guests at pachamama and I don't remember seeing anything.

Amina said Astryd is not dancing anywhere (bummer), and that there will be a potluck at Amina's house immediately after the workshop.

I think I can go ... it's on my calendar. Wish you were here on the 22nd! Dancing at a local event that night, but that's the weekend before the workshop, sniff. El Mansour has great Moroccan food, and if Tabitha is dancing, we'd have fun there! She's a beautiful dancer and lovely person. I think you met my buddy Lisa at Rakk West -- she'd probably be game. They no longer have live music, as far as I know, but it's a super nice atmosphere, good food, and Hoda is a very gracious hostess. El Morocco is wonderful, but kind of a long drive from SF. Fadil is a sweetheart, 'tho. And Khalilah is fabulous. I'd vote for Georges Lammam, 'too -- darn. Too bad he's not playing that night. Darn darn darn.....

Hiya Naiya! I will be in touch closer to the workshop…all I know is I want to watch a dancer/listen to good music/eat both Friday and Saturday nights. And I'm dragging my friend/teacher with me. We also want to go to Costless, and mmmmmm perhaps look at your stash and maybe buy something from you, haha!

Rats I'm already going to have left for Burning Man. One of these days I'll make it to more local events so I can actually meet more of you ladies.

Not sure if I'll be there, but highly recommend Astryd! She's a beautiful dancer and excellent teacher!
