Thread: Searching for competitions.....

So me and my troup-mates are looking at doing some competition road-trips in the upcoming year (2011) and could use some advice.

What competitions have group and solo categories where you can enter in mutliple categories (most of us would like to compete as soloists as well as in a group) and have categories for dancers at the pro and near pro levels?

Competitions on the West coast of the US or in Canada would be preferable and anything that is scheduled along with workshops/other events that make the trip worthwhile.

It will be my first time competing so if anyone has any suggestions about a good place to get your feet wet I'd really appreciate it. Or if anyone has any links to lists or previous threads listing competitions? My appologies if this has already been discussed ^_^

Well, Little Egypt hosts the well-known Queen of Raqs Sharqi and Queen of the Nile competitions every year, but the location varies. For instance, the second Ahlan Cairo Nights event this year will host the Queen of the Nile competition, and the event will be held in Montreal. You can go to Little Egypt Home Page to sort of get a feel for it. The first place prize is a trip to Egypt.

I don't pay attention to competitions, but I know there are quite a few on the Westcoast. The Westcoast/Canadian dancers will be able to tell you more than I can.

Wiggles of the West is in Las Vegas every summer. They have both group and solo spots.

The Belly Dance Nationals is in November, but you need to register early as their spots fill up very quickly.

We have eight categories to choose from and 24 workshops over 4 days. We will also have a themed dinner show in Sam's Town Live! and more.

This will be our 15th year!!! Hope to see you in Vegas.

We are full for 2010 and on wait list only as of this afternoon for all categories. We will be adding a 2011 category sign-up on the Belly Dance Nationals website next month for those interested We would love to see you in 2011!

2011 Belly Dancer of the Universe Competitions in Long Beach, California

February 18,19 and 20 2011 in Long Beach, California---very fun, good classes, quite a few categories---i even won one of the categories a few(????)years ago.
