Arrow New helpful ideas for S.F. Intensive workshop with Beata and Horacio

Anyone knowing a great and reasonable place to stay in S.F. near the Ballet Academy or other hints on restaurants, etc. I would love it! Finally took the leap and have invested in going in Feb for 5 days. Thanks so much, Aunna

    Hey Aunna!

Yay this will be a wonderful experience! I am working on my stamina :-)

I'd recommend Beck's Motor Lodge just a couple blocks down on Market. I put my guests up there. Prices are similar to the other TravelLodge/Best Western type places in the city, but the location is perfect for the studio and it's also less seedy than where the other budget brands are.

It's right at the head of the Castro, so there's a chance you might see some interesting people wearing interesting clothes over the course of the week. If it were Pride or the various Leather party weeks you might see explicitly graphic things. But in early Feb you should not have any problems (I put my Mormon family there over Christmas with no worries).

You'll have no problems finding food! My favorite spots: Manora Thai, Taqueria La Corneta, Papalote, Herbivore, Old Jerusalem.

    See you soon! Annessa

    Hi Aunna!

Two hotels I have recommended for dancers in the past are Hotel Whitcomb and Metro Hotel. I have a simple 'hotels' page that I put up for some events I have sponsored in the past with more info on both: http://www.monicaraqs.com/hotels.html

From the Metro to the Ballet Academy it would be an easy bus ride ($2) or a 15 to 20 minute walk (up a not too bad hill, then all down hill from there...but reverse on the way back!). From the Whitcomb it would be a pretty flat 10 to 15 minute walk straight up Market Street, or a fast bus or streetcar ride.

Food? Not a problem here, you can eat out really well for under $10 (and very very well for much more!). There are tons of restaurants right around the dance school you'll be at (along Market, on Church Street, and farther down into the Mission or up into the lower Haight).

I really wish I could do the intensive, but the timing is not great for me. :( I'll be across town thinking of you all! Enjoy our city!
