Thread: Any Belly Dancers in New Orleans?

I'm going down for 5 days (April 7-12) for the French Quarter festival. Does anyone know if there is a bellydance scene of some sort that I could catch? Details please. Thanks in advance.

a good friend of mine is a bellydancer there (she's not on Bhuz unfortunately) but they do have a strong bellydance/burlesque scene. I could send her an email and find out if anything is going on unless some bhuzers chime in with info....

Not much "bellydance" unless your a beginner but has my favorite incense (Temple) at crazy low prices. Also happens to be across the street from my favorite breakfast place. If you get a chance stop by Envie for the farmers omelet.

There are a LOT of wonderful friendly Bellydancers in NOLA!

Crescent Lotus Dance Studio - Open Kryss is one of my BD BFF's and owns this studio and books most of the dancers throughout the city, Ali from NOmadic tribal is a doll, Shamsi is in Baton Rouge and is an amazing performer, Amanda Monjoure is in the northshore area, Lady Morrighan is sometimes in Hammond (Placed at Universe), Safira Dokos teaches out of Mandeville/Northshore, Marci De La Luna teaches at Loyola, Iona teaches at Tulane... just to name a few! Most of these ladies are on here and on facebook too.

Btw... we used to dance a tthe Hookah but it went DOWNHILL and the owners treated the dancers poorly after Katrina. Then hired Suzy Nippletassles and her troupe of 6 week wonders... and now no dancing there.

When I visited years ago, there was this perfect little spot, called Jamila's Cafe that had dancers. I think it was Tunisian. I think Kryss was the dancer there? She's very cool and the owner's were kind and warm people. The food was delish! I love New Orleans, enjoy your stay!

Aww, I wish I would have seen this post sooner. But alas, with work and school and all the crap I'm doing these days I very rarely frequent bhuz.

I love it here and I mostly moved to New Orleans because of the belly dance scene! I hope you had a wonderful stay!

Hello! I'll be visiting NOLA in November 16-19 and would love to check out any performances by local dancers. Any suggestions for me? Are there any shows, haflas, restaurants still featuring bellydancing? Thank you!

I took me about 2o minutes to be able to log in but was finally able to after resetting my password about 3 times. A couple months ago I stopped being able to log in and I haven't been around since but answering your question was my motivation to make sure I could log in and finally! Whew!

Anyway, there are dancers every Thursday @ Byblos and Saturday @ Jamila's, which are both restaurants. There is more information here: Where to see belly dance in NOLA at the crescent lotus website about the when and where.

I am still an intermediate level dancer so I get my information and performance opportunities through Kryss, so as far as I know, the shows/haflas will not be until the fall. Hopefully you can find something fun while your here!

So glad to have seen this thread - I'm heading down to New Orleans for work for 1/29-1/31, and I tacked on a few vacation days to my trip. My vacation days are midday-Tuesday through Friday morning, so I will have to try to make it to Byblos on Thursday night.

Any particularly awesome vendors/stores in N.O. that I should try to hit? (Bonus points if they're near the French Quarter, since that's where I'm staying.) Thanks in advance for any leads. :)
