Mahira & Serafina present the 2nd Annual BOO-YAH! The Belly-Groove Workshop. 4 fabulous & unique workshops, shopping and a kick booty dance showcase!

Boo-Yah! The Belly-Groove Workshops 2011 will be held at The Hyatt Regency Banquet Rooms in Schaumburg, IL on Saturday August 6, 2011.


Here are your Boo-Yah! Belly-Groove Workshops for 2011!!!

9:00am-10:00am Registration/Check In/Shopping

10:00am-11:30am Serafina "Work the Floor"
Yes you can do floorwork! Serafina will cover core and leg strengthening, how to elegantly begin and end floorwork. You will learn several combos and even a short choreography. *Please bring kneepads and/or a yoga mat.

11:45am-1:15pm Mahira "Raq the Stage"
Mahira will teach you how to make an exciting entrance, how to exit the stage elegantly and how to utilize your dance space with pattern, purpose and visual interest. *Bring a veil!

1:15pm-2:15pm Lunch Break. Bring your own lunch or you can buy food from the hotel restaurant or food cart in the lobby.

2:15pm-3:45pm Jawhara "Who is Om Kalthoum?"
The Top Ten Things Middle Eastern Dancers Should Know About This Famous Egyptian Singer and Her Music. Join Jawhara in an interactive learning/conversation about the great diva of Egyptian Music, Om Kalthoum. Find out the ten things about the woman and her music that will enrich your dancing and add a new dimension to your performances. We will study several of her major songs and work with the musical interpretations focusing on lyrics and instrumentation. In today’s musical ‘soup’ we find a number of remixes of some of her quintessential popular songs, which we’ll also explore.

4:00pm-5:30pm Galatea "Binty Fresh Meleya Leff"
Get in touch with your inner bint al balad (translates to country girl) while learning this fun and flirty character dance. Meleya Leff is not bellydance but it's a fun and sassy dance. Take the sass and attitude you learn in this workshop and incorporate it into your normal dance repertoire. This workshop will cover the history and cultural context of the Meleya Leff, as well as meleya handling technique and how to communicate the character to your audience. The workshop will focus primarily on the Reda/Alexandrian style Meleya Leff and include combinations perfect for this style. *Bring your own meleya or a heavy chiffon veil.

5:30pm-7:00pm The doors to the ballroom will close to setup for the Gala Show. Shop with the vendors.

7:00pm Doors open for Gala Show seating. 7:30pm Gala Show starts.
