Mahmoud Reda is a pioneer of dance theater in Egypt. Soloist, choreographer and director of hundreds of productions, Mahmoud Reda has toured in more than 60 countries, performing on the world's most prestigious stages.

Don't miss this opportunity. Mahmoud probably will not be traveling internationally for much longer! Details will be posted as they become available. Denver is scheduled for August 20-21, 2011.

Saturday or Sunday workshop 10-4 (1 hr lunch)
$110 per day pre-reg, $125 after July 20

I think it's great that you're sponsoring him, and I hope you get a big turnout!

I'd like to add that I recommend studying with Mahmoud Reda even if you're not particularly interested in teaching or performing his dance style. I think of it as being sort of like eating your vegetables - a class with him contains a lot of "nutrition", if you separate yourself from the effort to memorize the choreography and view his workshop structure as a tool for growing in the dance.

He starts his workshops with a "go across the floor" format, in which he gives you first a simple combination to do, then he adds to it, then he adds to it some more, etc. This is a "best practice" of teaching dance that every belly dance teacher should look for a way to incorporate into her own classroom. It helps students train their brains in the skill of learning to memorize choreography. Also, by starting class with these drills in his style, Mahmoud prepares people to learn the choreography that will be taught later. Ie, it's a lot easier to memorize a choreography if you already know some of the step combinations it uses.

His choreographies are also interesting to study from a musical interpretation & choreographer standpoint. Ie, it's interesting to pay attention to how the energy level of his choreography rises and falls with that of the music - which moves he chooses as the energy builds, and how he uses them. Also useful is how he uses floor patterns, how he incorporates gestures to match what the lyrics are saying, etc.

Thanks for posting this - it's great to see the dates all in one place. But, I'm confused - the info I see on Amani's site lists Sept. 3 & 4 for Atlanta.

If I'm not mistaken, the schedule changed. I believe Amani Jabril is hosting him September 3-4, and I believe Arielle in Madison, Wisconsin is hosting him the weekend of July 30-31.

That is correct, it's Labor Day weekend.

Yes ladies that is correct. Here is the new updated tour schedule so you have it all in one place I am so happy Mr Reda is coming back this year. I for one was getting concerned with all the turmoil in Egypt but all is well, and here he comes!!!!!

I live in Denver and will be local when he's here in August. Aside from your review above, can you provide any additional information where I can look him up to see his acclaims? There seem to be so many good performers who come through here, and time and money seem to be so limited these days.

There were only 2 spaces left when I heard about this (3 weeks ago?).

Well what can I say in addition. If you do a google search you will find a lot of history, bios, etc on Mr Reda. He is now 81 (or is it 82 now?) and other than what's already been said, I can only encourage every bellydancer to take a workshop from him before he stops touring. He's a living part of our bellydance history, and also an amazing instructor. There is some more info on my site.
