Shira's Belly Dance Workshop Course Description: Dance in Egyptian Cinema

Explore how the role of "dancer" has been portrayed in Egyptian motion pictures from the 1930's through today. Learn the story behind well-known dance scenes, discover dancers you may not have previously seen, and learn how film portrayals of dancers changed over the years to reflect changes in Egyptian society.

I'm looking forward to meeting the lovely dancers of the San Diego in person! As always when I do a lecture, I'm reviewing the materials for it, thinking them over, and looking to see if there are any tweaks I want to make to the DVD before I come!

We're planning on one hour, but if there are lots of good questions we might run a bit long!

I just got my hotel reservations booked today. Will probably get the rental car taken care of tomorrow. I'll end up being in southern Cal a week, but most of that will be focused on spending time with family in Orange County.

I'm also hoping to make some time this weekend to polish up the DVD and handouts. Every time I present this, I make a few tweaks.

I just finished packing my luggage for my trip to California. I'll be coming down to San Diego for the lecture on Thursday. I can't wait to meet dancers from the San Diego dance community!

I'm bringing with me three books about Egyptian cinema which I personally use as a reference to build my knowledge on the subject. Attendees will be able to glance through the books and see what each is like so they can see whether any of these are ones they'd like to buy for their own use.

I'll also have a handout that lists all the movies from which I show clips and identifies some sources where you can buy them.

I really enjoyed meeting the San Diego dancers Thursday! I only wish that I could have had a little more time with all of you!

The lecture was wonderful and it was really great to meet you in real life, Shira. Sorry I had to run!
