    DOES YOUR BACK OR HIPS HURT AFTER DANCE? DO YOU FEEL MISALIGNED? ARE YOU STIFF OR UNFLEXIBLE? CAN'T QUITE GET THAT BACK-BEND? THIS IS THE WORKSHOP WEEKEND FOR YOU!

    Eight hours of hatha yoga workshops for belly dancers (and anyone else who wants to learn more about their body!), targeting the core, back, hips, and legs. Taught by Middle eastern dancer and hatha yoga instructor (RYT-200) Ariel.

    SATURDAY 9 JULY 2011
    12 PM – 2 PM
    Core Strength for Bellydancers
    Join Ariel for this yoga-based workshop targeted at strengthening the abdomen and other core muscles used in bellydance. Ariel teaches alignment-based hatha yoga to help you better understand how to access and engage your core. These exercises will help you dance with more strength and precision. Expect to sweat!

    3 PM – 5 PM
    Hip Openers for Bellydancers
    During bellydance, we work the muscles in the hips and legs, which can cause tightness and strain. In this hatha yoga workshop, Ariel teaches basic poses that can open the hips and thighs. These poses will help you find greater comfort and freedom of motion while dancing.

    SUNDAY 10 JULY 2011
    12 PM – 2 PM
    Basic Backbends for Bellydancers
    Belly dancers often attempt backbends that overarch the lumbar (lower) spine, which can be painful and sometimes cause long-term injury. This workshop works to strengthen the muscles of the back and spine. These exercises will help you do backbends safely, without misalignment or injury. Ariel will guide you through a basic hatha yoga backbends sequence, giving tips on spinal and pelvic alignment, and working to open the chest.

    3 PM -– 5 PM
    Restoring Your Body — A Workshop for Quieting Your Mind and Body
    Some days, your body needs to relax and destress more than it needs to exercise. Ariel will teach a workshop exploring poses that can relax the body and quiet the mind, including some basic forward bends. We will experience the effects of each pose, and how it can be modified based on individual needs. We may explore a few short guided meditations. Please bring two large beach towels or yoga blankets, a pillow, and an ace bandage.
