Thread: Ozma in the bay Area: Christmas-January 1st.

Hey there!

My mom is flying to San Fran and I'm crossing the ocean to hang out with her!
From Christmas morning until I board a plane ( likely hung-over ) on January first I will be in America. It's been years since my last time out to San Fran.

It is probably going to be a busy time. I will be hanging with mum, visiting friends (many of my friends were/are computer geeks or do work with Japanese translation, so about 9 or so live in the Bay Area) and taking one private lesson with Elizabeth Strong ( sooo happy she can squeeze me in on the morning of the 31st.)

I'd love to know about events (bellydance or purely social) going on around that time. I know my mother would also enjoy seeing some live bellydancing. I know it's a busy season...but I also know that you can't swing a dead cat in San Fran without hitting a bellydancer ( and then getting the crap beaten out of you by a vegan who objects to your cat swinging)

Shaynaz, I'll think about it. I'm more into Turkish than Egyptian, and don't wish to abandoned friends and family too much, but it might also rock...hmmm

if i know of any shows ill let you know. I was going to do one with Astryd but Im kinda hesitant cuz of the holidays. Although, i do think Lunatic Fringe is having their Quarterly hafla at the bean scene in sunnyvale. You could also contact a few other dancers that might need a sub at their regular restaurant gig.

Frankly I hadn't much thought about performing while traveling in the Bay Area (I KNOW how many dancers you have) until it was brought up on my blog AND Eshe posted here.

The only thing that makes fitting it into my schedule sound appealing is that my mother, my amazingly supportive mother who STILL tells people that I bellydance even though they act like she's just said "My daughter is stripping, whoring and teaching in Japan", has only seen recorded performances...she's never seen me dance live.

My teacher here, Mishaal, wants to know when mom is coming to Japan next so that she can help plan a show at that time.

-attempts to defuse all stressfull situations with humor and/or creative cursing.
-totally toilet trained. (We professionals never ask, but we should!)

I'd love to drop in on a halfa. I woudl never expect a dancer who hadn't seen me perform to allow me to sub for them...nor do I want to travel with my higher end costumes...because I am already using that suitcase space for items I am havign shipped to friends and my mom to save on shipping costs to japan!

The Lunatic Fringe quarterly hafla at the Bean Scene is on the 21st - I know 'cause I'm dancing in it.

Ozma you really should take Astryd's workshop if you can. She's awesome, regardless of style preference. Her workshops are loaded with cultural information and dance moves you'll use forever. I took two of her workshops within the first year I began taking classes and STILL use that stuff to this day. The west coast has been lucky to have her when she's home!
