GRAMMY NOMINEE, Souhail Kaspar and renowned oud player, Rachid Halihal return to DC!

Master percussionist, Souhail Kaspar, nominated for a Grammy Award for his Smithsonian Folkways recording with Rahim Alhaj, "When the Soul Is Settled: Music Of Iraq", returns to the Washington, DC area for workshops and a special performance.
Souhail will be joined by renowned oudist, Rachid Halihal to perform an evening concert on Saturday, April 26 at Saffron Dance Studio, Arlington, VA.

SATURDAY, APRIL 26:
1) ARABIC DOUMBEK FOUNDATIONS & FUNDAMENTALS WITH SOUHAIL - Learn the basics from a Master of Percussion and start on the right foot, or improve your technique & understanding of Arabic rhythms! With his years of experience on the stage and in the studio, Souhail is not only an excellent performer but a fun and patient teacher!

2) ARABIC VOICE & INSTRUMENTAL ENSEMBLE WITH RACHID - For singers & musicians interested in learning Arabic music.
LOCATION: Sidqi Studio, Arlington, VA - 12pm-2pm, $40

3) RHYTHM & MOVEMENT FOR DANCERS WITH SOUHAIL & KOSTANA - This traditional Egyptian workshop focuses on how the movements for dance and the part of the body used are different for each of the 3 elements of music: rhythm, melody, instrumentation. The student learns how to interpret Middle East music for the dance style Raqs al-Sharqi by portraying these 3 elements simultaneously to give a complete visual presentation of the music. The dancer appears to conduct the music with her (his) body! With his degree in Arabic Music & Performance, from Aleppo, Syria, Souhail brings cultural insights and integrity to this beautiful "dance of the East."

4) Intermediate/Advanced Doumbek Technique with Souhail - This workshop is for experienced players wishing to improve their technique through personal instruction with Souhail. I took Souhail's rhythm & movement workshop and it's awesome. He's such a great guy!
