Thread: Artemis in Carbondale IL November 7-8 2008!

November 7-8 2008 Artemis Mourat on the Southern Illinois University Carbondale campus in Carbondale IL. Hosted by Middle Eastern Dance Enthusiasts (an SIUC registered student organization) and the Nile Breeze Dance Company.

Activities include:

A friday evening lecture on Romany dance, music, and culture will be free to all workshop attendees as well as the SIUC campus community.

A Saturday master workshop on Turkish Oriental, including advanced technique and finger cymbals. This will be geared towards the advanced/pro dancer with at least some learning experience with Turkish dance.

A Saturday evening show.

Artemis will also have some Friday time slots to book private lessons.

Those of you that go will have a great time! Artemis is a wonderful teacher & amazing historian. You will learn so much! She's a gem here in the DC area. Enjoy!

As a former Saluki, too bad I don't have experience with Turkish. I would have loved to come.

NOOO!! I've seen videos of artemis and would love to study with her but I'm afraid I'm not an advanced dancer. ..cr.: ..cr.: ..cr.:

One question for ssipes, have you heard of public transportation from Carbondale reaching Chicago? I would love to at least go to the lecture and show but I don't own a car.

This is still on my radar screen. I have taken workshops by Artemis twice before, and I'd love to again.

Hi Damariz:

You can take Amtrak from C-dale to Chicago, though I don't know any details on cost etc. except many SIUC students use it.

As far as the workshop goes, she will just be gearing it to people who already know how to do basic movements properly, and who are familiar with Turkish karsilama music, etc. She'll be reviewing some basic stuff very quickly but won't be breaking it down to a beginning level. I guess I could say its for intermediates and up, but around here intermediate means beginner so...

You're exactly the demographic she'll be tayloring the workshop for. I kept hearing people say they wanted to learn more Turkish but wanted something more than her basic level workshop.
