Hi From Scotland
My name is Maisha and I'm an American currently living in Scotland. I've studied belly dance on and off for about 5 years (omg didn't realize it's been that long!!). I began dancing 20 years ago and I have a BFA in the subject. I've studied ballet, tap, modern/contemporary, hula and a few West African styles.
I've not danced significantly for the last 2-3 years and I would really like to get back into belly dance. I'm hoping that this forum will help me reignite my old passion for it.
I was hoping that I could find some suggestions on getting back into dance. I've taken a few classes here and there but nothing in my area has really inspired me. There aren't many teachers and while the few I've taken class with are lovely, often they end up doing something else or I just don't 'click' with the scene.
Help anyone?
Thanks!

Hi Sarahamh
I'm in Dundee. Been here for about 3.5 years. Are you in Scotland as well?

Re: Hi From Scotland
Hello!
I started bellydance whilst at Edinburgh uni when Lorna Gow was teaching so I know Ediburgh had quite a good scene then. The African and Arabic Dance society was open to non students too, depends how far you want to travel though.
Have you looked into Bellydance Divas??
Edinburgh Belly Dance Workshops It covers quite a few places in Scotland including Dundee...

Re: Hi From Scotland
Hi bellyfester,
Lorna Gow was the main teacher in Dundee I've heard. But she's not taught here regularly for years. She does do occasional workshops. I might be willing to travel to Edinburgh though it is a bit of hassle. I'm applying for a job in Glasgow so if I get that position it might be easier to attend classes after work. I guess I will just have to see.
Cheers

Hi Maisha,
No, I'm in England, but I'm good friends with some Scottish dancers. I particularly recommend Bhuzzer Bellydancingcaroline, you can contact her through the Bellydance Divas website above. Definitely worth travelling to Edinburgh for Caroline :) I don't know the Dundee scene, but if you contact Caroline she may have some knowledge of local teachers.

Re: Hi From Scotland
Missed out on Lorna Gow workshops in UK this year so I'm hoping someone will know when she is next coming over? Anyone know her workshop schedule for 2011?
Thanks,
