Hello From the Middle of Nowhere!
Good Morning Ladies,
I am driving 1.5 hours north to the nearest city to attend a belly dance workshop by myself today. I am incredibly nervous, since I have never done any type of dance classes. The workshop is open to beginners and experts alike. I am going to force myself to go, no matter what.
I am a 48 year old mother of 3 children who are creating lives of their own. I decided it's time to create a life of my own. Very difficult to do in such a small town. I envision belly dance as a group of women who are enjoying every second of life. I want that zest and enjoyment. I hope this goes well.
Wissh me luck,
Sue

Welcome to Bhuz and good for you!
My bellydancing started when our daughter was a year old and my husband and I agreed that I should have a night out and they should have a daddy/daughter night. That was a little over 5 years ago and I now have the best group of friends I have ever had in my life. I hope you can find that too!

Welcome to Bhuz!
Same thing here...I decided after many years of wanting to learn, I took the "plunge" about four years ago. I have met the greatest bunch of women (and men) and many of these have become my good and some, best of friends! I feel that we all should at least, attempt to do the things we want to do in life...life is too short not to enjoy it!
Enjoy! and Bhuz is the place to learn!

Re: Hello From the Middle of Nowhere!
Oh thank you ladies for the encouragement!
I drove all the way to Lincoln, Nebraska to this workshop. Unbelievably I was the only student to show, it was myself and two dancers, so I actually got a private lesson. THEN........
They invited me to a performance after our class, where 3 tribes were dancing. Wow, each tribe was so different in their styles. The women ranged from 13 to 65 years old, they were so beautiful and so happy! Love it, love it, love it!
I will practice and continue to look for oppourtunities to join in the belly dancing fun. Really had a great day today. If anyone knows of any groups in this area, I would love to hear about them.
Thanks,
Sue

Re: Hello From the Middle of Nowhere!
Glad to hear you had a good time. I, too, started bellydancing in my 40s, when my 3 kids weren't needing as much of my time, and now I dance with two troupes. (I'll be 52 in a couple of weeks.) As others have mentioned, I've met some wonderful people and have more friends and a busier social life than I've ever had, even in my youth.

Good for you Sue!! I'm 43 and in my 3rd year and still loving it. Stick around the boards here and you will get plenty of support. At least if you don't have an immediate dance community in your town, you'll have one here. hugs
