Thread: Tanith is NO MORE! Hilary Sahar is my new dance name!

I just wanted to post and let everyone know that - after much thought and deliberation, and consideration of Satinworship's insightful blog post (What’s in a Stage Name? | Carrara Nour) - I have officially changed my dance name to Hilary Sahar.

Originally selected as more of an "alter-ego" than a dance name, I realize in retrospect that calling myself "Tanith" was the last of the security blankets that I created for myself when I originally started dancing. Like a lot of beginning dancers, I needed a name that seemed separate from my shy(er) everyday self to give me the courage to get onstage and do my best to dance like a bellydancer should.

However, I woke up one morning a few weeks ago and realized, to my surprise, that I didn't "need" Tanith anymore. Everything about "her" that I love, I've grown into and been able to bring out in myself, thanks to my phenomenal bellydance buddies, friends, and mentors - a lot of whom are here on bhuz!

So, it is with pride and gratitude to all of you lovely ladies and gentlemen that I am finally ready to announce myself as I truly feel I am - as Hilary Sahar! :D

Welcome, Hilary! I think we met at Wiggles! I've been thinking of using my real name, Edna, plus an Arabic name for a stage name too.

Good for you! I totally relate to the alter ego dance name thing! I still have a separate identity. Someday the two will merge haha!
