Greetings- from Toronto
Hello all,
Thrilled to be here -I'm an Indian classical dancer, Toronto-based. I've also done a lot of Indian folk and gypsy work, and have collaborated with artists from Iranian and other central Asian and Middle Eastern dance backgrounds. Once again, very happy to be here!

Hiya, suburban Toronto dweller here. Have you danced to Ritesh's drums? *g* (if so, I'm envious!)

Thanks so much all! Keminitiri, do you mean Ritesh Das the tabla player? He's very amazing!
Nope, I haven't danced to his drums..for classical Odissi, we dance to a different percussion instrument, called the Mardala..a double-headed drum. But his work is very great..and a number of Kathak dancers have danced to his drums!

Hey Dahabiya- how awesome that you're in Thunder Bay!
I don't teach Khalbelia, the Rajasthani dance, but I do have some snake dances from the eastern part of India in my repertoire, if that may be of interest.
Khalbeliya's very beautiful! I don't know of very many in North America who do it - Colleena Shakti from the U.S and Anette Pooja from Sweden I think. It's heartening to see that there's growing interest in the form though!

I have seen Collena, and I hope to be able to study it. It was featured in the movie Latcho Drom and since then I have been looking for someone who can do it.
If I am ever in toronto I will let you know! Welcome :)
