Thread: Hi I'm Siouxsie from the UK

Hi

I thought I would introduce myself, I'm Siouxsie Cooper from the UK, I am a Belly Dance academic, finishing my Ph.D thesis - fingers crossed 'cos time is ticking away.

I am also an active performer (both arts performance as well as dance performance based), workshop teacher, theorist, seminar lecturer and writer. I work in Higher Education within the "world dance" and performance fields, 'cos no one has a "category" for it - enjoying the mercurial nature of being a Belly Dancer in HE. And I run my own classes and I garden!!!!!

I have been persuaded by a smaller, more intimate, belly dance forum to come over here.

So I will give it a go.

I have a national profile in the UK, I have published quite a bit and am known for my quick wit, dry sense of the ironic and strong/wild performance work. I visit and interview performers/teachers/advocates in Egypt, Europe, the UK and got even some (AHRC) money to go over to the States about 5 years ago, so I know some of you. And the powers that be know me!!!!

I am pretty intellectual, provocative, insightful, don't suffer fools gladly and I am willing to hear more so I am looking forward to my time on Bhuz.

And yes siouxsie and the banshees remember them well, and I think there has been a resurgence in her work recently. Also her management team and found out that I am around with the same name, so they have brought lock stock and barrel all the www.siouxsie.coms etc that can be brought.

A Belly Dancing Siouxisie is obviously not what her management want her to be associated with, you know all that black serious goth thing.

I am looking forward to the Bhuzzing experience.

That is fairly standard practice, casting a wide net over your "brand"...performers included...and getting the various permutations of your url to maintain your image REGARDLESS of who is out there to usurp it...you cast the net prior to anyone else coming along. Did they contact you?

Also, word on the street is that THAT utterly cool lady does like the BD.

Thanks Desna, glad you liked the articles Liz is a dab hand and being persuasive and thought I'd put my work in there. I have just sent her a comprehensive review of Lorna and another one about my research work and failed attempts at getting an interview with that Suraya Hilal lady. Ho hum, sometimes you have to admit to defeat....and actually maybe it doesn't matter anyway. I've researched around her, through other contacts, went to several workshops and got an introductory interview, analysed her work and thought it through....enough is enough is enough!!!!

I'm enjoying myself so far.
