    Howdy from Florida!

    Howdy everyone!

I'm Mina ( plainclothes name Jen) from Pensacola, FL, and I've been dancing for about 16 weeks now, so I'm a real baby when it comes to this, but I love it!

It sounds silly, but 1001 Arabian Nights and Mata Hari were the major inspirations for me to start dancing. Last summer I finally took the step to go to a local class, and I can't believe how much I enjoy it.
    So!
I hope to become very good at it, (Dare I dream of being professionally skilled?) and want to thank you all for all the informative posts littered throughout the site. I do have to admit I'm a little hesitant that I've already committed a few faux paus (Despite the 16 weeks, signing up and performing at the SARAAB Hafla last weekend- I was the dancer in the third set with the burgundy costume that performed to the Aladdin song ><) but it still has yet to damper my eagerness to learn.

    So howdy!
    Mina

I'm so sorry you missed it! Excluding my attempt at a performance, everyone was wonderful. It was great getting to know the bellydance community in the panhandle/gulf coast area. But I am sure we will be meeting soon at one of the events!

Nothing silly about your inspiration! I highly recommend the new biography of Mata Hari, "Femme Fatale" by Pat Shipman. A local library probably carries a copy. She certainly knew how to costume and market herself, if nothing else. :)

There are a lot of workshops and events down here in Orlando, too, so keep an eye on them as you progress- they may be of interest.

    Best of luck!

Hi and welcome! You're in very good company, there are wonderful dancers in Florida and I know of one very talented costumer...

    Have fun!!!
