Hi, I'm Soma. I currently live in Ohio. I take cabaret classes and dance with the advanced student troupe. But I love tribal (mostly fusion) also, and workshop with tribal fusion dancers as much as possible and drill with tribal fusion DVDs a LOT. I'm working toward "professional" this year, with gigs pending for November (cabaret, as I'm still searching for a fusion venue).
I am always in search of more - more to see, more to read, more to hear, more to know, more like-minded shimmy sisters... so I'm excited to be here! :Ahappy:

I am brand new to the site too...but you are WAY ahead of me in belly dancing! I just started to learn on my own...then dropped it for so long I'm going to have to start at the very beginning again.
I think tribal/fusion will probably be what I will wind up liking the most...but I don't know enough about belly dance yet to even know that.

Re: Just joined
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!
LadyLoba, it will come back. I have at times felt on my own during this belly dance journey too. Thank goodness for the internet! Research, read, watch videos. Have fun!

I know...in some places it's hard to find others who are interested in belly dance. I had one male friend (we arent friends now because he was a total jerk to me over something non belly dance related) who was into it just because he thought it was sexy....and a hand full of female acquaintances I met through a former job who had a troupe then seemed to fall off the face of the earth...and that was it for the interest in belly dance where I live. Everyone else here either falls for the stereotypes about it and thinks it's vulgar or the same thing as stripping...or they think of it like a fad and any interest in it fades away in a few months.

Thank you, all! I'm enjoying it here... perhaps a little too much.
Keep the song in your throat
Let your hands bring out the meaning
Your glance should be full of expression
While your feet maintain the rhythm
