Hello from Southern Indiana!
I'm Jess, from Evansville, IN. I'm fairly new to bellydance; started learning last September. I'm a costume fanatic - I studied costumes and makeup at the University of Evansville and started applying my sewing knowledge to bellydance costuming, and now I make a good part of the costumes for my dance group. Hope to learn a lot here - just reading over articles and watching videos of dancers gets really overwhelming, so I'm trying to take a slower approach, stumbling on stuff here and there.
Nice to meet everyone!

Re: Hello from Southern Indiana!
Hey everyone! Sorry for not responding - I didn't get alerts for the replies, so maybe the site updates had something to do with it?
@LoriAnnLV - New Harmony is GORGEOUS! I wish I could spend more time there.
To everyone who commented about costuming - I just finished costumes for my troupe's Halloween show. I won't be touching my machine for a while. I don't even want to SEE a needle and thread. But I'm sure I'll be over it in a week! I made these GORGEOUS skirts that used about 12 full yards each. They spin sooo well. As soon as I'm over my exhaustion, I want to make one for myself!
@ScarletDancer - Hello! I actually have a flier from Blue Grass! I hope I get the time to get across the river and check it out at some point. There are four or five bellydance groups in the area, and I want to eventually give all of them a visit. I think next week some of the girls in my group are going to Mermaid for a class, and I'm looking at taking group classes from Evansville Bellydance. I think Charazad has classes, too. Sorry, I get really excited about meeting local dancers! There aren't enough of us!

Re: Hello from Southern Indiana!
Great! I would love to have you and anyone else in my class. I have done some things in conjunction with Evansville Bellydance, I recommend her classes. I need to check out Mermaid but their schedule always conflicts with mine, they don't seem to have a mailing list either. I don't know who Charazad is I will have to check it out. I dance Classical Oreintal, Cabaret and Folkloric so I don't really run in the tribal circles.
I encourage every group to get a mailing list even if you use it twice a year to publicize events. It has been hard for me to keep track of what is going on in our area since so many groups seem to not have them. The Bhuzer formerly known as Scarletdancer

Re: Hello from Southern Indiana!
Charazad is a hookah lounge in Evansville. It's a really fun place, and they just got a whole bunch of new food and extended their hours. I highly recommend them if you're ever in town. They occasionally have teachers in there to give classes, and there's a bellydancer there every Thursday night.
I love the Middle Eastern styles, and they're a lot of fun to dance, but I have to say that ATS is my favorite to watch.
I think Mermaid does their mailing list-type stuff through Facebook. My group is working on one, but honestly, we're in transition from someone else's studio to our own, so we're not doing much outside of our weekly group meetings.
