Thread: Hello from Toronto, Canada

Hello,

I have been lurking here for a little while getting an amazing education from reading all the fascinating posts by all of the experienced and knowledgeable dancers and academics here. Bhuz is an incredible resource and I'm so glad that I found my way here. I have so much to learn!

I'm very new to Belly Dance, but it has very quickly become an obsession! I am having the time of my life! I joined the Introductory class at Hannan's here in Toronto this past September. I'm nearly finished my second round through that class, and I'm already signed up for the Beginner's class. My class is practicing a short one minute choreography to perform at the upcoming December Gala, and I'm both very excited and nervous. I have also purchased front row seats for myself and a friend and I am looking forward very much to seeing everyone else perform!

Ok. I think that's about it from me right now. I think I'll go back to lurking and reading and learning from you all! *runs off stage*

It's been snowing--we had heavy snowfall Monday night and Tuesday, and more on Wednesday and Thursday, with flurries yesterday and today. And it's 20 below, and the roads are terrible. I live on a hill, and usually the buses get stuck on my street near my house a couple of times in winter or spring, because they can't accelerate up the hill on the slippery roads after stopping at the first stop.

Well, this already happened three mornings this week, alone!

P.S. I lived in Toronto for 3 1/2 years, many years ago.

Wow. Your winter has definitely started for you! I live in the Beaches area where we have some pretty steep hills so I can relate to your situation with the buses and the ice.

I've never been to Calgary.

Are you by any chance in/near Port Dover? My family had a cottage there when I was a little girl. A beautiful area!

Are you going to Hannan's workshop in Toronto on the weekend of Dec 4-5? I'm not registered yet, but I have been thinking about it although I am probably too new to be able to absorb anything from it...maybe next year...

25 minutes from Dover! My mom lives there. A very nice area! ..g.:

I don't think I will be going to Hannan's workshop - my husband is not that well and I really don't go to as many workshops as I used to.

Hello from the land of the Grey Cup - snowy here too but it's warmed up in time for the big game this weekend! Those -30 mornings were nasty!

Indeed! My fondest memories are of my childhood summers spent in Port Dover. Our cottage overlooked the lake. I loved the sound of the breeze in the leaves, and the waves coming in. Happy Sighs...

Ooooph! -30? *shiver* It's been a long while since I visited anywhere that my nose hairs froze the minute I breathed in (e.g. Thunder Bay), or had to plug the car in to an electrical source just so it would start in the morning. I'm sure you have your own tales of survival in the Great White North!...
