Thread: Happy 2011 from Ndi-mi

Happy new year, and happy new resolutions! Hi everyone.

My name is Toni, I started ballet classes when I was 4 years' old and never stopped dancing. Turns out I was too "heavy" to be a ballet dancer, so I changed to modern, then tap, and on and on through a myriad of dance forms until... bliss!

Magpie by nature, dancer by spirit, bellydancing feeds every need in my soul - joy, strength, flexibility, movement. lots and lots of SHINEEEE!

I had a scant 18 months of lessons before my DH accepted a contract in a tiny African country that has nothing to feed my addiction. I bought a bunch of DVDs and started learning at home, then some girlfriends found out about it and now we have a troupe!

Although I feel like an overweight plank, as the only one with any formal training I'm the leader and teacher. Gulp! However, we wobble through, have a great deal of fun, and have even put on one "show" - for free for a friend who's contract was up and who asked for it. It went down a treat, and the "girls" are keen to do another.

Last year the dancing stopped when I was medevacced for an emergency neck rebuild, so my 2011 resolution is to return, phoenix-like, and put on another show this year.

I'm thrilled to find this forum and hope to be able to attend lessons on the odd occasions I'm back in civilization!

Have fun with your dancing! Not being able to take regular classes can be limiting but you can certainly browse around here to find recommendations for some good DVDs.
