Hi, Hello, Bonjour, Salaam, Azul, Howdy...
I've been lurking for a while, just reading...and figured I should come out and say hi.
I started taking lessons last year, for the first time ever, and am really kicking myself for not having started earlier. Not only do I love it, but my body likes moving this way. I have some dance background -- 13 years of ballet through high school, some jazz and ballroom, and, well, I just love to dance. So yes: not only am I larval bellydancer, but I have no excuse for not having tried it sooner. And really it was the music that I was listening to (I listen to a lot of rai and chaabi -- both Moroccan and Algerian chaabi) that convinced me I should learn the techniques to dance sort-of-properly to it when I was boogying around the room.
My home right now is Athens GA, but having spent time in Algeria (my fiance is Algerian), that may be subject to change, since really, I love the place.
My current teacher -- whom I adore -- is really a tribal (not ATS) teacher, and while I find that style interesting and I'm learning a LOT, tribal doesn't make me feel passionate. I don't really have a style yet -- but I decidedly gravitate toward folkloric and chaabi dancing; I'm not a very subtle or delicate dancer and so that would seem to suit me, as well.
I have a 10-year-old daughter who is a very gifted dancer (as a toddler, her favorite show was "Soul Train," and she would mimic moves with remarkable style). She is also very interested in bellydance; so far she's mostly been doing ballet and hiphop.
The name, FTR, I'm toying with as my "bellydance name," should I ever get to any kind of level where I might perform at people (note "at" people, since seriously, it's like I inflict my dancing on people!) It's a pet name bestowed by a certain guy...
I'm pretty fluent in French, which I mention for whatever it's worth, since I know this is an international forum.
Anyway, I'm learning a lot just reading the forums, and am so thankful this is here. And I'm rambling. Sorry.
So hello!

Hi and welcome! I am hoping to take French language lessons this spring (if there are enough individuals wanting to take the course that is offered).
