Thread: Greets from Nashville

Hello. I'm Aislin and I live in Nashville, TN (originally from Miami). I'm what one might call a tribal fusion dancer (semantics hurt my brain). For a living, I'm a voice over artist and partner in Middle-earth Networks.

Belly dancing for me has been a love story and an escape. I discovered it through a friend who had a baby and a mutual friend taught American Tribal Style. She recommended to try it and help lose the "baby weight". Of course, my friend needed the support group and asked me to come along. Fortunately, I needed a pick-me-up after getting married too young and ending up in abusive marriage. I had left my ex-husband and was still wondering exactly where I had gone.

Fortunately, I was able to begin finding myself right after class number 1. I don't think it was the dancing really. It was a catalyst. Something about being around other women who celebrated who they were and who each other is. Combine that with the music, the form...it was great.

Unfortunately, I hated American Tribal Style. So, I moved to Egyptian and really enjoyed myself. Then, I discovered Tribal Fusion and fell in love. I do continue to take classes in Egyptian and more traditional styles as well since I (personally) feel it's important to know the roots.

I moved to Nashville not too long ago and found a teacher who worked on my schedule, but I haven't been able to get out to any local events yet =/
