Thread: Hello from Columbus, OH

I can't believe I've been dancing for 6-7 years and didn't know this place existed. One of my friends finally showed it to me. :)
Haven't looked at a lot of other intros so I'm not sure what's expected. Maybe some background?
My mom told me I was always dancing and was adamant about being a ballerina when I grew up (even took ballet classes and everything). I remember reading an article about belly dance when I was 12 in a magazine for young girls, thought, "Hmm, interesting" and forgot about it. When I was 16 I randomly remembered it and decided that belly dancing sounded like a great idea. Not only that, but I was going to become *famous*. Miraculously I found a class. It was an hour away but becoming a famous belly dancer was worth it!
Unrealistic dreams of fame and glory aside, I fell in love with the dance. After maybe a year and a half and I moved to the Columbus area and started studying with a wonderful teacher there.
For the longest time I still had every intention of going pro but nursing school made practicing and garnering experience a tad difficult. ^^'' Life and personal problems and school and etc., etc. led me to take some hiatuses here and there but I did accumulate a good deal of performance experience and since last fall have even gotten a few paid gigs.
I'm constantly seeking to improve my performance and technique and have already found a lot of useful information here. My goal is to develop my career into that of a semi professional.
Hopefully I'll be able to contribute something here as well as learn. It's so wonderful to know this community is here.
