Belly-baby in DC, connecting with the community!

[Samba-Bellydancr]

Hello Everyone!

I am a "baby-belly" as I guess they are called, and I love the dance and have met some great people. I started out as a samba (Brazilian style) dancer, which I still perform in the DC area, but have been getting more and more interested in bellydancing, with a mind to perform. I currently take Egyptian cabaret classes with Yasmin at Joy of Motion, and want to get a strong foundation in Egyptian, then start work on other styles. I have a big interest in Turkish, and Tribal-fusion styles, and have been having a blast perusing the various performance group websites, costuming sites, and checking out videos on Youtube!! There is just such a big world out there about bellydancing. You can't find anything like this for samba in the US. Anyways, just wanted to introduce myself, and I welcome all and any advice you may have for a newbie!!!

Hi Katie, I went to the Alf Laylah halfa last Sunday and I met some of your friends from class and they had mentioned that you would have enjoyed going becasue of the various styles and your interest in fusion. I am a fusion dancer myself. You should def check out the local haflas. There is always a good variety of styles to learn from. Welcome!
