Florida here :) And VERY new.

Hi all :) I'm Amanda, and I am an extremely new dance student from central Florida. My teacher is a delight, and she handles me losing track of my right and left with remarkable aplomb. Bless that woman. I practice like a fiend, and that appears to be helping, although some days (like today) it's not quickly enough for my taste.

Outside of being a certified klutz (I trip over carpet lint), I'm 42 years old, married to an absolutely wonderful man, and I have two sons, ages 13 and 9. I first became interested in Middle Eastern dance when I was in college, but never had the guts to give it a go until now.

I've been lurking and reading, but thought I should go ahead and register and say hi. So... hi :) It's nice to meet you all.

    Congratulations on de-lurking. Welcome aboard!

Thanks Sirene -- I will probably descend back into lurkdom to a degree (so much to read, both here and elsewhere, and at this point I'm only learning how much I don't know, LOL), but it's nice to be here :)

Re: Florida here :) And VERY new. Updated!

I figured I'd drop in and just update that I haven't fallen off the face of the earth or bailed on the whole dancing thing :) I'm about to start my third session of classes, which is exciting to me because I have moved up from beginners to intermediate via a graduation dance. That thing nearly gave me a heart attack because it required choreography and creativity in any form is not my gift. Give me a recipe, or a choreography someone else has made up and we're just fine, but don't ask me to drag it out of my feeble brain!

However, the thought of being stuck in beginners limbo forever spurred me on, and now I'm in intermediate trying to figure out which version of a 3/4 shimmy is the 3/4 shimmy my teacher wants and I'm thoroughly happy. Well, happy except I'm not even close to figuring out that particular shimmy, LOL

I'm even going to a workshop in November, so that should be interesting. I'm thinking I'm going to be WAY in the back so my relative cluelessness doesn't get in the way. But it should be good, so I'm tickled.

Anyway, that's it! Plugging away, practicing still, and I will get that dratted shimmy right, by all I hold holy

    Welcome!

It took me a LONG time to get a 3/4 shimmy. Everyone else in the class was much faster with that move. Congrats for progress!

hola. I got the 3/4 shimmy from Neena and Veena of all places, but I can't remember which video it was. you might find some clips on youtube.

Your posts made me smile :-)
