What inspired you to develop the SharQui™ technique?

Oreet: First I would like to tell you more about me and my background. My heritage is Israeli of Yemenite descent. My parents are from Israel and my grandparents were from Yemen, so bellydance is part of my culture. I learned from my grandmothers via mimicking and, though it was great, I did get hurt due to no breakdown of the movement. I injured my rotator cuff from executing snake arms with my arms too far back and I was never taught how to do the hip shimmy properly.

I grew up in New York where I was a professional modern dancer and a fitness instructor. In the mid-late 90's bellydance was becoming popular in NYC health clubs but fitness enthusiasts were frustrated because it was hard to follow and were not getting a workout. Some bellydance teachers were still teaching via "follow the leader", which is not wrong but may not be as efficient for a fitness enthusiast. So I created a fast pace format that’s easy to learn, logical and, most importantly, safe. SharQui - The bellydance workout™ was born in 1998. Shortly after, the creation of the SharQui™ method it became the ONLY fitness accredited bellydance technique in the world, which I am really proud of.

A few years went by and I noticed that not only fitness enthusiasts were catching on but bellydancers as well. Bellydancers were also craving the workout and technique to enhance their own styles and increase stamina for their restaurant gigs. I realized that SharQui™ was offering benefits from the technique such as precise hips, cleaner transitions, better isolations and more stamina.

SharQui™ is about dancing smarter, stronger and longer!

What has the response from your viewers been like?

Oreet: My fitness viewers have gained a sense of wellbeing and happiness. Women have emailed thanking me for helping them reconnect with their femininity while getting a workout at the same time. Bellydance viewers have emailed thanking for an easy-to-follow and logical format.

What are your plans for SharQui™

Oreet: As far as products I would like to produce a Level 3 SharQui - The bellydance workout DVD as well as a Volume 2 SharQui Bellydance Club Mix CD. I have nearly 50 certified instructors across the U.S. and hope to increase that number with more trainings across the U.S., Asia and Europe.

Why did you want to make it available for download on Bhuz.TV?
Oreet: Accessibility! We live in a world filled with technology and products that offer instant gratification. I am looking to inspire people to dance and get fit. Having this program at people's finger tips gives people no excuse to get up dance and workout simultaneously.
