Last year, I ushered in the New Year dancing..this year, I will be celebrating in the company of dear friends by the sea, near a bonfire, also dancing..I'd like to wish everyone a bright and beautiful new year ahead.

I just finished watching "El-Haimoune" (1986), a film directed by award-winning Franco-Tunisian director Nacer Khemir. It is the first film of Khemir's trilogy set in the Tunisian desert. It has some beautiful shots, a very original and interesting storyline- very abstract- but many metaphors can be read into it. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves to see sand/desert- it truly has some beautiful camerawork, and also some vivid colors captured into the interiors of a Tunisian desert ...

I write from Nova Scotia, also known as "Canada's ocean playground". I've been here about a week- my partner has recently moved for work to a town an hours drive from Halifax. We've been lucky to find an apartment right by the sea, in a lovely place known as Southwest Cove- an isolated place, with the Atlantic opening out as our backyard.
